Local Love: Little Paper Planes & Owl Cave

entrance LPP

For this installment of our Local Love series we headed to Valencia street and visited one of our favorite new stores, Little Paper Planes + Owl Cave books. Little Paper Planes opened earlier this year in May and it's such a great addition to the bustling Mission neighborhood.

Little Paper Planes is owned and operated by Kelly Lynn Jones, who ran LPP as an online shop for years before launching this brick and mortar version of her store. Kelly is joined by Viniita Moran who brought her online bookstore Owl Cave Books into the shop. Owl Cave Books has a wonderfully curated selection of hard to find art books and magazines.

Owl Cave Books

One of our favorite things about the shop is the space, which was transformed with fixtures and hand built pieces created by Kate Pruitt.

Jewelry & wall art

The shop also has a  print gallery which features a new artist every month and a residency program which can be found in the back of the store. The residency program offers space to artists, makers and curators.

Little Paper Planes

If you're visiting the bay area or if you're a local who hasn't been to LPP + Owl Cave Books yet definitely make a trip there. They have such a great selection of goods and they're so well curated and displayed, you'll definitely leave feeling inspired and hopefully with something fun you didn't have before.

Refinery29 Siblings Feature

Last week Refinery29 came by our new studio and took some photos of Eunice and Sabrina for a feature on San Francisco siblings. They were thrilled to be included along side some of the city's coolest siblings. The piece includes a pretty fun q&a with Eunice and Sabrina about each other -- including Eunice's favorite memory of the two of them growing up. You can check out the full Refinery29 feature right here.

 Thanks for including us Refinery29!

Tomfoolery Photo Booth Fun!

We wanted to say congrats to our friend and amazing product photographer Edyta Szyszlo who just launched Tomfoolery SF with her partner Jared this week.

We've had the chance to experience their ultra stylish open-air photo booth several times already and we're big fans of the fun backdrops and clever props.

Check out their playful website and be sure to book them for any social events you have big or small!
Congrats Edyta & Jared and best of luck with your exciting new venture!

Featured: Harper's Bazaar Arabia Bride

Do you remember this exquisite English countryside wedding of Lisa and Rory? It was recently featured (with a huge spread!) in Harper's Bazaar Arabia Bride with pages full of gorgeous photos, insider information, and all the classic details that made the event so memorable. We had loads of fun working with the charming couple, and are over the moon about the great publicity their wedding has received. Congrats Lisa and Rory!

Sabrina & Eunice's Favorite SF Activities

Eunice and Sabrina's recent feature on Sosh's series Tastemakers is definitely one of our favorites. Sosh, the new online activity guide, is the ultimate resource for travelers and city dwellers in San Francisco. Whether you're looking for the best coffee in town or want to get your heart pumping with a new exercise, Sosh has the best of the best all lined up. When the team asked Eunice and Sabrina to share their favorite things about San Francisco the answer was undoubtedly yes. Their fellow Tastemakers are some of the most inventive people in the city, including Thomas McNaughton of Flour + Water (one of their favorites) and Mike Krieger of Instagram. The sisters gave a few tips on great places to find inspiration, where they go to unwind, and their favorite places in the city to take visitors. Check out the entire feature here.

Thanks again to the team at Sosh for coming by the H!L studio. We can't wait to see more Tastemaker stories to come! To join (for free!) head over to their website today.

They offer high quality video workshops on almost any topic - from pottery to bookbinding. They have some amazing crafty superstars in their lineup already and we're totally honored to have been asked to be instructors. Mendocino Boho Wedding Shoot

Did you see this charming boho wedding shoot on Green Wedding Shoes? It was styled by Karin Kamb of Clever Girl Consulting and photographed by none other than Edyta Szyszlo. The sultry green backdrop of the Mendocino Farmhouse paired with the neutral organic elements of the clothing and decor made for a comfortable and romantic setting. The models are local folk singers, too, which made their connection seem so perfect.

Eunice designed a brand new wedding suite for the shoot, appropriately titled Bluegrass. It's still in the works but will be available on our website soon!

Featured: Wedding Row California

This week Wedding Row California wrote a wonderful post about letterpress printing at Hello!Lucky. With specific details about the creative process and gorgeous photography by Josh Gruetzmacher. We feel touched when people show such interest in the age-old printmaking method of letterpress, especially when they spend a whole afternoon learning the ins-and-outs.

Printmaker James is a fabulous tour guide, and showed Abigail (the author) and Josh the steps of creating a New York City Skyline letterpress wedding invitation from beginning to end.

DIY Cotton Boutonnieres by Mrs. Vintage

It's always such a treat to see projects from our Handmade Weddings book come to life in real weddings. One of our favorite wedding inspiration blogs and gorgeous rental boutiques Mrs. Vintage recently crafted the sweet tallow berry and cotton bud boutonnieres for her big day and we'd say they turned out flawlessly.

Although creating your own floral bouquet or arrangement may seem complicated at first, this three-step process is quite simple! Mrs. Vintage tells that with the right materials and some trusty hot glue your boutonnieres can be DIY'ed just like that.

We love the adorable lavender pins for her ring bearers, and the pink ribbons tie it all together just right. Props to Mrs. Vintage for mastering this DIY! To see the step-by-step tutorial along with endless bridal inspiration, click here!

Real Wedding: Ashita and Mark

This New York City wedding is definitely one to remember. Ashita and Mark shared their love with friends and family over two traditional celebrations, and both are equally stunning. Ashita's family oriented Hindu wedding ceremony incorporated bright hues of red and gold, with plenty of shimmering embellishments. Their second ceremony inside the Angel Orensanz Foundation for Contemporary Art provided a breathtaking backdrop for the couple's "I do's." Of course such a beautiful wedding deserves beautiful recognition, and Inside Weddings was sure to deliver. You can read their adorable story here, and browse through the entire collection of photos (including our Visit New York City invitation!).

Congratulations Ashita and Mark! Visit Inside Weddings for more!

Interview with Leslie Yang of feistyelle

We are so excited that one of our favorite local jewelers will be joining us in the studio this Saturday for SFMade day. Come early and snag some beautiful jewelry along with Hello!Lucky goods. We chatted with Leslie Yang, the force behind feistyelle, about sustainable design, how she got her start, and what she loves about style in San Francisco.

When did you start feistyelle and what's different about your designs and materials?

I started making women's accessories out of felted merino wool in 2005 but over time felt (no pun intended!) that it wasn't scalable as a business, meaning I was working too hard for too little. I took a year off, told myself to be open to new ideas and ways of making things. Near the end of that year, I discovered how to lasercut wool felt based on my own designs. The Dahlia design was one of my first designs and it's still our bestseller!  Feistyelle designs are different because we're deeply committed to using eco-friendly materials like vegan suede, wool felt, and bamboo ply throughout our jewelry, accessories, and home decor lines. No one else really is making and mixing sustainable materials specifically in jewelry and accessories quite the way we are. Our jewelry is above all else: playful! All of our pieces are colorful, fun, super light, AND you can stack, swap, and flip our earrings.

How does creating in SF impact your final product and design?

I make a very conscious decision to make as much of my product and packaging in San Francisco. It matters to me that I can meet the vendors I work with, see their employees' working conditions, as well as make sure that the money I put into our community stays in the community.

Tell us about your new collection.

We just launched our new collection: Glimmer & Cream. I'm ridiculously excited about every piece! Featured throughout the collection is the new material of our dreams: vegan suede. Our vegan suede is incredibly light, soft and, like leather and suede, thin but strong with a touch of stretch. Made from recycled polyester film and plastic bottles, this is our most eco chic material ever.  Our new Stacked Lotus earrings come in a selection of creamy pastels and coral, which we screened with gold water-based ink on one side making reversible earrings (6 earrings in 1). We also screened neon pink and yellow on light gray vegan suede for that neon pop to your color block (outfit). We also have some new long necklaces, perfect for wearing every day over tunics or shirts.

What do you love most about style in SF?

I love that everyone in SF celebrates holidays as an excuse to put on a costume. Along that same vein, there's a lot of love for color, individuality, play, and rule-breaking. We're not terribly snobby about our style and because of our microclimates, we're pretty cozy chic and clever with our layers. I'd say SF has been a good influence on feistyelle!

You can meet Leslie and snag some of her beautiful goods this Saturday, May 12th from 11am - 5pm. Visit us at 977 Howard Street between 5th & 6th.

Featured: Brides Magazine

We always feel honored whenever our name is featured throughout the growing realm of wedding magazines, blogs, and resource websites. We also love to cater to our community by offering one-on-one consultations with brides when making the big decision to buy wedding stationery. It truly is a joy to be listed in Brides Magazine as one of the "people and places you need to know to plan a wedding in San Francisco!"

The issue highlights all of the places throughout the city that offer helpful advice and inspiration for your wedding. Our beloved Faye even made her way into the spotlight!

The current issue of Brides Magazine is available now!

Real Wedding: Cari and Jason

This beautiful New York City wedding was featured in Martha Stewart's brand new Real Weddings special issue! Cari and Jason's crisp black and white theme demonstrated all the classic and traditional elements of weddings we love, along with a few personal touches. The couple chose to use our New York City Skyline  invitation suite and incorporated the icons throughout their decor. Martha Stewart's Bride's Guide gives an inside look into the event, with exclusive photos of the setup and all the delicious treats. The Statue of Liberty chocolates by Edward Marc Chocolatier really topped it off!

Two-toned black and white cookies were given to guests, sealed with custom skyline labels.

We also printed a large scale New York Skyline poster to act as a guestbook for the wedding. It's such a fun and memorable keepsake!

Congratulations to Cari and Jason! For more photos of this classic New York City celebration, click here!

The Every Girl

Eunice and Sabrina are featured in The Every Girl today! It's such a sweet review and we're delighted to be a part of their collection. The Every Girl is an online resource for the working woman and offers inspiration for a life well lived. With a lovely assortment of topics from finance to health, there's something in there for everyone. And we can definitely relate to their manifesto:

Whether she is searching for her dream job or a new city to call home; is saving up for a down payment or a trip to Europe; is learning to cook or speak another language, she wants a little guidance. She wants to be inspired.

Check out the slideshow here! Thanks The Every Girl!

Real Wedding: Katie & Justin

Think pink! We were thrilled to be part of Katie & Justin's wedding, featured today on Green Wedding Shoes. We had so much fun designing this custom suite, which included a few of our current obsessions - neon and edging. We worked with the couple's navy and fuchsia palate to create a modern yet elegant design (calligraphy by Michele Papineau).

The couple selected the Majestic Halls, located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Built in 1921 as the former Los Angeles Bank of America, the building retains many of its original historic and ornate details. Katie and Justin fell in love with these architectural elements that made the space feel unique to downtown Los Angeles.

Aren't the flowers stunning? Katie and Justin wanted a pink ombre effect and The Little Branch executed their vision perfectly. Each table had various distressed bronze buckets filled with fuchsia, pink or blush flowers. The bride’s bouquet was comprised of a variety of deep pink flowers, including roses, and tied with a navy ribbon.

Katie's dress was Halston Heritage, her shoes were RED Valentino and her stole was vintage, purchased from a local flea market. Justin's suit was from Hugo Boss.

The ring pillow was made by Katie's mom using our how to guide! We love the addition of the pom pom border.

In addition to the invitation suite, we also created matching day of materials: menus, place cards, table numbers and programs.

Congratulations Katie and Justin! To see more of this gorgeous wedding, please click here.
