Vintage Wedding Dress Ads

While looking through some old photos for 'throw back thursday' on instagram yesterday we got a little obsessed with vintage wedding ads. There are some really amazing ones out there and we just love looking at them and seeing how far we've come. We found the image above on Etsy and you can purchase it here.

Here's some of the text from the ad above, also note you could purchase these dresses for just $40! The new filmy look for Spring, magnificently interpreted in lace and nylon tulle…and making much of the exciting new longer torso. In beautiful new Spring shades. About $40 each. Found via Bellz and Whistlez Blog.

How perfectly 70's is this wedding gown pattern? Someone should totally rock that today.

What's a wedding without a little Pepsi-Cola?

Misty & Matt's Vintage City Hall Wedding

We will never tire of looking at San Francisco weddings. As much as we love a big beautiful celebration we have a soft spot for a simple, low key union. You can't bet the drama of San Francisco's City Hall, with its high sweeping ceilings and gorgeous architecture.

Lilia Photography took these beautiful photos of Misty and Matt's sweet San Francisco wedding at City Hall. We're digging Misty's vintage wedding dress and love that all the gentleman wore vintage style suits with brooches instead of boutinnieres, pocket squares and vintage tie-pins. Misty’s bouquet was made from flower brooches and put together by her father, which is so special.

When ever we see photos of weddings we naturally think of which of our wedding designs would match the celebration. We can't help it! For Misty and Matt's charming vintage ceremony we would chose our vintage inspired Sweetheart wedding suite in letterpress to match the drama and beauty of their big day.

Congratulations Misty and Matt! And thanks for letting us share your beautiful photos here Lilia!

Wedding Inspiration Board - Nouveau Peonies

Today we're bringing you a wedding inspiration board for one of our most popular and dare we say favorite wedding invitations, Nouveau Peonies. If you're planning a celebration around this invitation you can go all out feminine or emphasis the 1920's vibe this design showcases. Pretty pink petal cupcakes above from All Things Cupcake.

If you love your wedding suite and really want to bring the design to the table there's no reason not to print up menus, they'll add to the place settings and reinforce your theme of the day. Big paper poofs in whatever color you chose for your invite are always a lovely addition to the decor. And how's this for a classic wedding getaway car?

There are so many different directions you can go for a wedding dress to match the charm and sophistication of Nouveau Peonies. Go all out 1920's with this flapper wedding dress or chose a more soft and subtle style like this pretty cream colored gown.

To see more curated inspiration for our Nouveau Peonies wedding suite check out our Pinterest board. Is there a wedding suite you've got your eye on that you'd like us to create a mood board for? Tell us in the comments and we'll get to work on it for you!

Vintage Wedding in California

This real wedding featured on Wedding Chicks is just gorgeous. We adore the vintage vibe that this bride and her team pulled off and nature never fails to be the perfect backdrop for a wedding ceremony.  We're big fans of Rifle Paper Co. so we loved seeing the save the date postcard we designed for Brianne and Brandon paired with their lovely wedding invitations.

The couple carried the invitation design to the drink table with this table cloth from Rifle. They did a great job of setting up an easy do-it-yourself drink table as well.

How stunning is this ombre cake made by Crisp Bake Shop in Sonoma?

Dawn Ranch is the perfect setting for an outdoor wedding, and with just a few simple touches the space can really be transformed. We love the look of these streamers in the apple trees.

The flowers were done by Spiral Hand, just adding small vintage jars to the table with some colorful pops of flowers is all you really need for an outdoor wedding where nature takes center stage.

To see more of this wedding head over to Wedding Chicks. Congratulations Brianne and Brandon! Here's to many years of happiness!

The Fabulous Mr. Finch

We just stumbled across the work of Mr. Finch, a textile artist from Leeds in Yorkshire, and were immediately enamored by his ethereal and whimsical creations.

Finch says he is inspired by British folklore, shape shifting witches, and moon gazing hares. We love that he believes the animals he creates come to life at night when everyone is sleeping.  It's no surprise that his creatures feel so magical.

He has had no formal training which is completely inspiring.

Love this sea horse...

This charming hare reminds us of the Velveteen Rabbit.

Check out more of his work here and here. You can pick up some of his pieces at his Etsy shop.

Vintage Wedding Dresses

We give props to the women that wear a pre-worn dress on their wedding day. Especially if it's the dress of their dreams. There are so many unique styles out there, so who says a dress from 1950 can't be the one? With Etsy, its not unusual we're caught scanning through pages and pages of inspiration, so when "Vintage Wedding Dresses" popped in the search tool, fantastic results came back. Like this sheer ivory lace dress by Jessica McClintock. We love it because it's bohemian, feminine, unique, and totally affordable.

Do you have a little 50s style in your personality? There are tons of knee-length lace dresses that would make for a fun party dress. This one above from Vera Vague has vintage re-vamped written all over it.

How gorgeous is this silk number from Closet Case VNTG? It's sexy yet subtle, and we love the nude white.

Ruffles have officially made their comeback, so this 1970s era jacquard dress would make a splash at any wedding.

Our favorite may be this 1940s tiered lace dress from Ainslie Wood Co. The delicate lace mixed with tulle overlay is a perfect combination of vintage bliss!

New! Foil Stamp Wedding Invitations

Although we just shared the exciting news about our new wedding invitation suites on our blog, we couldn't resist sharing even more delightful news with our fans!

The latest latest additions to our wedding collection are these beautiful foil stamp wedding invitations! When we installed our foil stamp machine late last year it took us a little while to get the hang of it, but now we're pressing these stunners left and right. Not only are the designs classic and modern, the shine of metallic foil adds a pop of perfection.

You can choose from a range of styles, including Symphony, Pop Deco, Atlantic, Shooting Star, and Parker. They remind us of a roaring twenties vintage party invitation - great for any formal event!

Local Love: Tantrum

This year we're starting a new feature on the blog showcasing some of our favorite local shops, eateries, and spots in both San Francisco and London. We're kicking off with a unique vintage shop in Cole Valley called Tantrum. From the moment we first saw the circus themed window display and sign, to the precious stop-motion video of their shop, it's definitely a new favorite. Tantrum, located on 858 Cole Street, has a sweet collection of mid-century and vintage items for kids of all ages.

They not only carry awesome kids stuff, but one-of-a-kind housewares for moms and dads too! We're really digging all the rich colors in this photo.

We fell in love with them once we saw the sneak peek on Modern Kiddo, then when we saw co-owners Amanda and Michelle in these vintage get-ups and it kept getting better. They gave a fabulous Q & A and we can't wait to get our hands on some of their goodies.

Check out this stop-motion video of the space!

They must have such a good time working together. Check out Tantrum at 858 Cole Street in San Francisco!

Real Wedding: Karen and Dan

This wedding featured on Wedding Chicks last month keeps reminding us of how a wedding should be. It is simple but colorful, traditional but unique, and casual but exquisite. Karen and Dan's Marin Headlands wedding took place this summer at the Headlands Center for the Arts, creating a gorgeous and almost secluded setting for their big day. We're really liking the way the couple mixed modern elements with rustic accessories, like these amazing booths at the ceremony. The splashes of yellow popping up throughout their event kept things bright and fun.

Lucky Luxe printed their vintage inspired handkerchief invitations, all in various color palettes.

To keep guests and themselves amused, the couple wanted their RSVP cards in the form of a madlib, so we were thrilled they chose us to custom design the cards. What a great way to get geared up for a big party!

We also printed their menu cards, place cards, and food signage with a simple flourished border.

Such an incredible spread. The catering was provided by Katie Powers Catering and included some sentimental treats from the couple's past.

Sending a big congratulations to Karen and Dan! Many well wishes to you in your future as husband and wife.

Real Wedding: Haley and James

This real wedding was introduced to us by our wholesale manager, Heather. She shared these images of her friends Haley and James' California wedding and we were immediately overcome with giddy wedding bliss. From all the perfect DIY details to the pure beauty of the bride and groom, this wedding is simply magical.

We must start off with the colorful photography by multi-talented Kate Miss. Her blog is a great source of inspiration so we were excited to hear she was the photographer at this wedding. Next, how about these amazing life sized tissue flowers? It sets the perfect backdrop for an already beautiful venue (Northstar in Tahoe, CA). Full instructions can be found over at Design Sponge.

One of our favorite details has to be the yarn wrapped vases that the bride and her bridesmaids made from our Handmade Weddings book. Since Haley and James' wedding day was all about color, they fit in nicely amongst the rest of the display.

Isn't this a good looking group of women? All the bridesmaids dresses are vintage. Love how the colors of the dresses coordinate with the decor!

The brides beautiful dress was custom made by San Francisco based designer Kajan Padraig. We love the delicate lace sleeves!

This is what weddings are all about. Having fun with your loved ones.

Thanks to Heather for sharing these photos and thanks to the bride and groom for representing our yarn wrapped vases! We truly love to see our projects come to life. For more photos, head over to Kate Miss' blog For Me, For You.

Lucky Friday # 81, Hang in There

Hello all you lucky folks out there! This is the 81st edition of our Lucky Friday Giveaway.  Each Friday we feature one of our letterpress greeting cards. We’ll choose THREE LUCKY WINNERS to get a free card.  Post a comment by 12 p.m. PST the following Thursday, and we’ll announce the winners on the following Friday!

The winners from last week are (drum roll, please): Maggie, Csilla and Kendra Purnell! We’ll contact you next week to arrange sending your Chairs card.

Design: Hang in There Artist: Eunice Moyle Inspiration: Life and work is like a barrel of monkeys, and we know things go better if we all hang together. Who to send it to: A macaque who feels like crap, a monkey who's been feeling a little funky, or a Rhesus who fell to pieces. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: We were thinking of doing a new version called "Ecce Mono" in honor of the recently "improved" Spanish fresco. Favorite detail: Can y'all spot the one monkey who's just a teensy bit different from the others? Why letterpress? When it comes to printing primates, we prefer mano a mono.

Don’t forget to post your comment and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!

Real Wedding: Lauren and Nick

This real wedding really represents the color pink at its best. With subtle hues of rose and blossom it was all pulled together wonderfully. Lauren and Nick wed at the Healdsburg Country Gardens on a sunny day last September and it could possibly be the sweetest wine country wedding we've seen. We love that the couple chose to use traditional elements in a natural and rustic environment. And the stunning floral bouquets by Blue Orchid Floral really topped it off. You can see more photos of this lovely vineyard wedding over on Wedding Chicks!

Our Vintage Lace wedding invitation complimented the couples' vintage feminine theme. The pop of color in the blossom envelope added a little fun to the mix, too.

Congratulations Lauren and Nick! To view more photos, head over to Wedding Chicks by clicking here!

Mendocino Boho Wedding Shoot

Did you see this charming boho wedding shoot on Green Wedding Shoes? It was styled by Karin Kamb of Clever Girl Consulting and photographed by none other than Edyta Szyszlo. The sultry green backdrop of the Mendocino Farmhouse paired with the neutral organic elements of the clothing and decor made for a comfortable and romantic setting. The models are local folk singers, too, which made their connection seem so perfect.

Eunice designed a brand new wedding suite for the shoot, appropriately titled Bluegrass. It's still in the works but will be available on our website soon!

Lucky Friday # 71, 1st Birthday

Hello all you lucky folks out there! This is the 71st edition of our Lucky Friday Giveaway.  Each Friday we feature one of our letterpress greeting cards. We’ll choose THREE LUCKY WINNERS to get a free card.  Post a comment by 12 p.m. PST the following Thursday, and we’ll announce the winners on the following Friday!

The winners from last week are (drum roll, please): Derek Rigby, Nicky, and Sierra Catherine! We’ll contact you next week to arrange sending your Hipster Party card.

Design: 1st Birthday Artist: Esther Aarts Inspiration: We had a little block about this one— our train of thought didn't have rails, but then we got on the ball and it ended up being a real bunny of a design. Who to send it to: We can think of some one, one for whom it's perfect, the one and only, the sweetest one of all! Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: The text "One Is the Loneliest Number" didn't suit the occasion— not one bit. Favorite detail: Ooh, that's a tough one... Why letterpress: We can give you one good reason... it's one-derful.

Don’t forget to post your comment and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!

Real Wedding: Caroline and Blair

This real wedding is definitely one of our favorites. Once Caroline and Blair decided to tie the knot in wine country, they turned their beautiful Calistoga wedding into a wine lovers paradise. Set with deep red florals and classic decor, the event was truly one to remember. For their save the dates, each guest received a bottle of wine fit with a custom label and a vintage prescription inspired card.

The wedding invitation suite included prohibition-inspired letterpress invites, custom designed match books and place cards, and even a dictionary of wines to prepare all the guests for what Northern California has to offer. So many fabulous keepsakes!

Of course the natural beauty of Calistoga, CA (even in December!) created the perfect backdrop for such an event. Alison Events had their finest ladies work to create the ultimate romantic environment. The photos of their wine cave ceremony completely blew us away!

Caroline and Blair's dream day carried on into the night with a stunning reception, full of fine spirits and dancing. Oh how we love cozy winter weddings!

DIY Cotton Boutonnieres by Mrs. Vintage

It's always such a treat to see projects from our Handmade Weddings book come to life in real weddings. One of our favorite wedding inspiration blogs and gorgeous rental boutiques Mrs. Vintage recently crafted the sweet tallow berry and cotton bud boutonnieres for her big day and we'd say they turned out flawlessly.

Although creating your own floral bouquet or arrangement may seem complicated at first, this three-step process is quite simple! Mrs. Vintage tells that with the right materials and some trusty hot glue your boutonnieres can be DIY'ed just like that.

We love the adorable lavender pins for her ring bearers, and the pink ribbons tie it all together just right. Props to Mrs. Vintage for mastering this DIY! To see the step-by-step tutorial along with endless bridal inspiration, click here!

Lucky Friday #62, Going Places

Hello all you lucky folks out there! This is the 62nd edition of our Lucky Friday Giveaway.  Each Friday we feature one of our letterpress greeting cards. We’ll choose THREE LUCKY WINNERS to get a free card.  Post a comment by 12 p.m. PST the following Thursday, and we’ll announce the winners on the following Friday!

The three winners from last week are (drum roll, please): Danyun, Nicky and Shannon! We’ll contact you next week to arrange sending your Champ card.

Design: Going Places Artist: Julia Rothman Inspiration: Julia's a REAL jet-setter—what more inspiration could she need? Who to send it to: A friend who's movin' on up, movin' on out and taking the high road. Ideas we scrapped: The original text went, "If you have a lot of baggage make sure, at least, that it's old and beautiful." Favorite detail: Adore the color combination— perfect for spring travel and new beginnings! Why letterpress? Old suitcases and typecases have much in common—they hold a lot more than you think, and both can easily become heavy as lead.

Don’t forget to post your comment and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!
