Our ears are burning! We just learned that our new personalized stationery collection, which makes its debut this week, already has some celebrity fans: Eva Longoria and Molly Sims! Molly loves the Chrysanthemum design, while Eva's a fan of a design that was inspired by her sophisticated style - we even named it Eva! Shucks, gals, we are so flattered!
We're super excited to be participating in the Maker Faire this weekend (May 3 & 4) at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. We'll be showing & selling a lot of our latest card designs (sneak peak coming soon!) and doing DIY cardmaking workshops featuring projects from our forthcoming book, Handmade Hellos (Chronicle Books, 2008). A highlight will be a guest workshop with contributor and cartoonist/crafter Francois Vigneault (Sunday, 11 - 12). Visit us in the Craft Corral to see a full weekend workshop schedule. We're thrilled to announce our new line of letterpress wedding invitations, Marry Me! by Hello!Lucky. We often hear feedback about letterpress invitations being out of the range of an average wedding budget, so we decided to try and do something about it -- we designed these invitations specifically be simple to print to reduce the amount of press time involved. They're also offered in a more limited range of colors to help streamline the production process, and allow us to ship them in just 10 business days. Since letterpress is an artisanal printing method, it's never going to be cheap, but we hope our effort helps bring stylish letterpress invitations within reach. Enjoy!

We had a lovely visit from Sarah Labieniec of Lab Partners yesterday. We had just finished letterpress printing the second edition of their San Francisco print, now available once again at their etsy shop! Once again, we all drooled over their delectable illustration details, including the tiny weather vanes on the tops of the painted ladies. This print is amazing in person! Sarah designed several cards for us last year (including this fabulous birthday card). Read their blog for oodles of ideas and inspiration!
Moving a letterpress studio is no small fry. We promised Pat, our rigger (someone who specializes in moving heavy equipment, relying on old-fashioned principles of loan balancing, cantilevering, etc.), who claims that "he's getting too old for this" (p'shaw!), that we won't do it again anytime soon. In the meantime, Pat did teach us how to drive a forklift, so we can maybe we can be more helpful next time (not that we're saying there will be a next time)!
In total, we moved over 25,000 pounds of printing equipment, and about 800 boxes (many thanks to the charming crew from the Delancey Street Foundation). Our once-loved studio on 3rd Street is now quiet, much to the relief of Diane, the building's Assistant Manager, and we have a lovely new home in the heart of San Francisco.

We're thrilled to announce our fabulous new digs in San Francisco at 977 Howard Street between 5th and 6th in the SoMA area. We only just got internet up and running at the new place, hence the hiatus on our blog, but we're now back in business! We're open Monday through Friday, 9 - 5 and by appointment, and visitors are welcome anytime!
We've been big fans of Luxe Paperie ever since Mary-Kevin, its lovely and talented founder, launched it a couple of years back. It's our go-to source online for boutique greeting card lines from independent studios - Mary-Kevin always has her eye out for the freshest talent, and is a great friend to the design community. This month, she's featuring our lovely letterpress cards designed by Julia Rothman. Thanks, Mary-Kevin!
Eunice's apartment is coming along swimmingly, thanks in large part to fanciful custom furniture by Jillian and Toast at Because We Can. (Hello!Lucky is working with them to design furniture for our new space - stay tuned for more details and pictures!). We were thrilled to receive our advance copy of My Story, by Mitchell Symons, from Headline Books last week - just in time for Mother's Day in the UK! The book is a guide to writing your own autobiography and includes a blank journal with plenty o' pages to fill with all your juiciest tales! Hello!Lucky's talented Shauna Leytus designed the covers (way to go, Shauna!). This is our second project with Headline; the last one was Left Bank, by Kate Muir and we're working on Ms. Muir's next title as we speak. Many thanks to Headline Books, and the lovely Ami Smithson, with whom we worked on this project!

We have to hand it to Christa at The Knot Magazine for styling this fresh new spread for their Spring/Summer issue, showcasing a yummy lime and cherry color combo. The spread features our L'Oiseau wedding invitation (note to brides: you can have this color combo at no extra cost), and coordinating cocktail napkins and matchbooks available right here from For Your Party. We also love the way they used Toord Boontje's Until Dawn Curtain as a backdrop (available at Unica for $123).
Valentine's Day is one of our favorite holidays, in part because is it's the perfect time to shamelessly showcase our quirky humor! We are most inspired by vintage valentines, with their pun-tastic punchlines - check out our latest styles here. Also shown above are some of our favorite designs, such as Lionheart, from over the years.

The neighborhood encompassing Bermondsey Street and Borough High Street is the home of Hello!Lucky's London studio, located at the historic Leathermarket building. Just steps away from our studio, we absolutely adore the Garrison Pub for its gorgeous, vintage style and its incredible gastro-pub-style food. Also on Bermondsey Street: the headquarters and London retail outlet of Terra Plana, a wonderful design studio that creates stylish, environmentally sustainable shoes and boots created from recycled materials. And of course there is the Fashion & Textile Museum, currently exhibiting Peacocks & Pinstripes: A Snapshot of Masculine Style. We also adore Holly & Lil, the couture dog accessory designer that also happens to stock Hello!Lucky's letterpress printed greeting cards. And finally, there is the historic Borough Market, home of the juiciest organic produce and gourmet fare in London.
We've been watching Julia Rothman's work for some time now and were thrilled to finally meet her last year at the National Stationery Show. We love the hip, urban quality to her illustrations and the slightly naive linework - it all comes together in illustrations that are slightly retro and totally inspiring.
So, we were thrilled when Julia agreed to lend her illustrations to our new, exclusive line of letterpress greeting cards. We commissioned the illustrations shown above and then collaborated with Julia on the graphic design. We letterpress printed the cards on 30% post-consumer waster recycled paper in our San Francisco studio (the photographs don't due justice to the fine, indented lines created by the printing process!). One of our favorites has got to be the Silverware thank you card - perfect for dinner parties. Coming soon: matching gift wrap!
The cards were just featured on Design*Sponge (thanks, Grace!), which has also featured Julia's fantastic work for Urban Outfitters and Freddy & Ma, among others. See more of Julia's wonderful illustration work here.
We were thrilled when fellow stationery artist Tori Higa invited us to contribute to her new book, Today's Top Stationery Artists (Schiffer Publishing, January 2008). The book is packed with photographs of work by some of today's leading artists in independent publishers, including some of our favorite designers: Pancake & Franks and Egg Press. The book is available here.
Of all the trade shows we do throughout the year, London's Top Drawer is one of our favorites. There is so much fabulous, fresh design happening in the UK and Europe and this January's exhibition, which wrapped today, was another case in point.
This year, we were debuting our brand new line of letterpress greeting cards and gift wrap featuring illustrations by the amazing Julia Rothman, along with our own vintage-inspired designs. As always, our cards were well-received by our loyal fan-base of UK retailers, among them Magma Books, Castor & Pollux, Live Like This, and Liberty. Between visits, we managed to catch up with a few favorite designers, who never cease to inspire:
Petra Boase exhibited a range of fabulous new mugs featuring her colorful cut-paper and collage-inspired images. Petra is practically a household name in the UK (her cards can be found at Designer's Guild and many independent boutiques) and we hear that her cards are now available in the U.S. at Papyrus and Paper Source stores. It's about time! Petra also has a wonderful range of children's wear, tea towels, framed prints, and even lamp shades, all available at her adorable online shop.
We caught up with Fiona at Wu & Wu - since she started exhibiting at Top Drawer, we've been in awe of her note-perfect Chinese kitsch designs for everything from mugs and totes to wallets and this genius shoe-shine kit. We finally made the connection that she is the illustrator and designer behind the brilliant packaging for Blue Q's Miso Pretty line of cosmetics, which we've coveted for ages! We also discovered the wonderful French illustrator Miriam Derville, whose studio, Mimi'lou, produces amazing wall decals for children's rooms (we want to use them to decorate, period!). Check them out here.
And, of course, there was the always-inspiring Marimekko, debuting their Spring 2008 collection. We especially love these trees by Kristina Isola and these gorgeous pods by Erja Hirvi.

We at Hello!Lucky are thrilled to debut our fresh new look online! It’s been a long time coming, and we have to confess we’re doing a little happy dance over here in San Francisco (with a bit of toe-tapping in London!) now that it’s finally gone from imagination to reality!
Our new site features a clean, simple-to-navigate design and tons of gorgeous photos by the amazing Sara Remington. Sara took so many lovely portraits of our letterpress wedding invitations that we had trouble deciding which one to feature on the home page! The options we considered are below – we picked green for its fresh, serene feeling but we’d love to hear what you think!
In envisioning the new site, we wanted to create a drop-dead-gorgeous destination for letterpress wedding invitations, birth announcements, custom stationery, and greeting cards online – a destination that welcomes not only shoppers but those craving ideas and inspiration (given the number of hours we spend at Anthropologie, we know the psychic rewards of trolling through tons and tons of beautiful items and gorgeous design!) .
