Now for this week’s edition:

Design: Woodland Cheer Artist: Eunice Moyle Inspiration: Furry and feathered friends found in folk art. Who to send it to: Fine craft aficionados who squirreled away fun Etsy finds and generously sent them your way for the holiday. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: A bunch of naïve, outsider art renderings of folk instruments reading "Close enough for folk music!" Another with a just big acorn, reading "Wanna hear acorny joke?" Favorite detail: We heart the squirrel love. Why Letterpress? Dingbats/Typographic ornaments are sometimes called "printer's flowers." Wonder if there are any printer's acorns?

Don’t forget to post your comment and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!

Why letterpress? Pressmen also like to get all inked up.

Triumphantly Announcing Our New Website!

HL-holidaygroup-1-72dpi

Drumroll, please...We are thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-spankin'-new website!  We've been laboring over this baby for months and months and are sooo excited that it's finally (finally!) here!

tomfrost-1-72dpi

The new site includes a fab new collection of custom holiday photo cards: This year we got together 16 of our favorite illustrators/designers—the likes of Susy*Jack, Hammerpress, Tom Frost (featured above), Lab Partners and more—and collaborated on a whole collection of fun and unique holiday cards.  We can't wait for you to see them!

desert_skyline1

Additionally, the new site features beautiful photography by Edyta Szyszlo...we had so much fun styling these shots!

cape_cod1

We also have a gorgeous new wedding invitation collection with Anne Smith (another illustrator we've admired/been deeply envious of for years and years)...

SusyJack-4-72dpi

And we're thrilled to introduce our brand-new customization tool, which is going to make it a breeze to customize cards.  It's super cool, if we do say so ourselves, and allows you to change colors, choose fonts and drop in photos on the fly. It makes ordering fun and easy and gives you a lot of control over the final result.

You can also send your order straight to print (that's how much control you have over design, people!) to cut down on the turnaround time.  Normally, it can take 1-2 business days (or weeks, for those of you prone to dilly-dallying!) to approve a manually-created proof, so this is an exciting new feature.  Of course, you still can have our designers put their finishing touches on your design or incorporate any special requests, but how awesome is that??

ny_personalize

That being said, please bear with us as we get settled into our new digs (there are bound to be a few hiccups along the way!). Some products may be temporarily unavailable online while we get our shop in order, but we promise they'll be back soon!  If you have any questions or need help with a product that is currently not available on our site, don't hesitate to drop us a line or give us a ring! We'd love to hear from you! US: info@hellolucky.com or 415.355.0008  UK: ukinfo@hellolucky.com or 020 7378 9740

Lucky Friday # 35, Skull & Crossbones

We’ll contact you next week to arrange sending your Trick or Treat card!

Now for this week’s spooky selection:

skull&crossbones

Design: Skull & Crossbones Artist: Eunice Moyle Inspiration: We were playing Ouija one night and the spirit told us that oui and ja both mean "yes." Creeeeepy. Who to send it to: A Jolly Roger, a femme fatale, or a slightly sinister sister. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: "We put the 'gal' in gallows humor." Actually, we're still working on that one. Favorite detail: We like how the different sized eyes make all the difference in the skulls' spookiness. Why letterpress? Because the spirit spelled it out for us. Oui. Ja. Yes. L-E-T-T-E-R-P-R-E-S-S. I swear, I wasn't pushing.

Don’t forget to post your comment and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!

Mary, Renee G and Mary E!

We’ll contact you next week to arrange sending your Skeleton Fiesta card!

Now for this week’s spooky selection:

trick_or_treat

Design: Trick or Treat Artist: Lab Partners Inspiration:  A tiny town teeming with teeny trick-or-treaters was just too tempting not to attempt. Who to send it to: a petite pirate, a diminutive Dracula, a wee werewolf, a smallish skeleton or an itty-bitty kitty. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: We thought the college version, with kids dressed as showers, laundry baskets and zombie sorority girls was a little too hard to communicate at that scale. Favorite Detail: Who could name just one? But we delight in saying that there really is a devil in the details.

Don’t forget to post your comment, and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!

Now for this week’s edition:

going_places

Design: Going Places
Artist: Julia Rothman
Inspiration: Lugging vintage luggage is a sport in our field, inspiring awe in good design—particularly with regards to such brilliant notions as the invention of the wheel.
Who to send it to: A jet-setter, a globe-trotter, a glad new grad, a Fulbright scholar...
Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: A little dog packing a too small satchel with a too big bone reading "Bone Voyage." A two toed sloth climbing a tree, reading "Movin' on Up!"
Favorite detail: Love the color choices and the meticulous metalwork.
Why Letterpress? Vintage leather luggage can only be adequately rendered with vintage leatherpress printing.

We’ll choose THREE LUCKY WINNERS to get a free card.  Post a comment by 12 p.m. PST the following Thursday, and we’ll announce the winners on the following Friday!

Back from our brief hiatus, here is this week's card:

julia_rothman_robots

Design: Robots Artist: Julia Rothman Inspiration: Witnessing a short circuit crash our batteries-not-included Roomba into our computer desk gave us a deep thought. Who to send it to: Any humanoid named Rosie, Wally or particularly Marvin; or a hot bot with a birthday in the distant future— the year 2000. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: We let the paranoid android jokes go the way of the difference engine, and the strangely risqué robot card reading "Byte Me" obsolesced faster than the Tandy. Favorite Detail: Love the little K-9. And the Bohr model balloon fills us with nuclear age nostalgia. Why Letterpress? Such futuristic subject matter requires equally futuristic print technology.

Don’t forget to post your comment, and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!
