It truly is a joy to be listed in Brides Magazine as one of the "people and places you need to know to plan a wedding in San Francisco!"

The issue highlights all of the places throughout the city that offer helpful advice and inspiration for your wedding. Our beloved Faye even made her way into the spotlight!

Pikku

When we spotted these silk screened cotton ribbons by Pikku on Parcel Post we stopped right in our tracks. Pikku has an entire collection of pillows, office accessories, ribbons, and wrapping paper! What a perfect coincidence it is that our custom birth announcements by Pikku go hand in hand with these accessories. We personalized our Mums birth announcement to match their lemony color scheme, and it's truly a match made from heaven.

Check out the entire Pikku shop here, and our Pikku birth announcements here!

Store Feature: Modern Mouse

This week we’re continuing with our vendor feature series and highlighting the lovely indie shop Modern Mouse. Opened in 2009 and tucked away in an open-air shopping center in Alameda, California, this sweet boutique offers loads of handcrafted goods. We asked owner Eleen Hsu some questions about how this unique shop got its start and what makes it so special.

What inspired you to open Modern Mouse? In mid-2009, I heard about a business plan competition offering the grand prize of a 1-year lease on a retail space at a local shopping center. I'd grown up crafting and loved the world of DIY/handmade, was running a tiny little business on Etsy selling handmade bags and dreamed of having my own brick-and-mortar shop, so I entered! I made it to the semi-finalists with a concept pretty close to Modern Mouse's current business model, but in the end I lost out to a learning cafe concept. A few months later, I noticed that CCA (California College of the Arts) had opened a pop-up shop in my neighborhood shopping center. Inspired, I wrote to the property manager and within 6 of the busiest weeks of my life, Modern Mouse opened its doors! We started off as a holiday pop-up shop with goods from about 50 artists, and 2 years later we've tripled our roster and thrive on being able to bring the amazing work of local and indie artists to our community.

What makes Modern Mouse so unique? One of the things that we think makes us unique is that we're such big fans of DIY that we love sharing it as much as we love selling it. Every month we host a Crafty Hour that's led by queen of crafting Polly Conway. We choose a fun craft that teaches a different skill each month, round up supplies (and of course snacks and beverages), and invite the community to join us for an enlightening evening of crafts! We also love putting a name, face, and story to the goods that our customers purchase. We display artist profile cards alongside their work, as well as feature each one on our blog. We've also started a series called "Show Your Studio" to give customers behind-the-scenes looks into where all the magic happens.

How long have you been carrying H!L cards? We started carrying Hello!Lucky cards just a few months after we opened. H!L cards are right up our alley because like most of our products, they're also locally made just across the bay in San Francisco! Not to mention that the H!L team makes it fun and super-easy to order. :]

Do you have a favorite or best selling card from us? Peeps is our best-selling H!L card! Unicorns and Lionheart are tied for second, and the Sock Monkey series are all around faves as well. My fave is the new Greetings from San Francisco card!

Can you tell us a little bit about your staff and what they are loving in the store right now? Fuzzy monster gear by Ghoulie Girls is a perennial favorite, but the plush critters by Phil Barbato have also recently snatched a special place in our hearts, along with 3 Fish Studios' "I Love California" prints. Not to mention, of course, the work of three of our very own talented staffers: Genevieve Santos of Le Petit Elefant, Polly Conway of Pollyannacowgirl and Marguerite Payne of Bella Beads!

Anything else? We're so grateful for the support of our customers, our artists, the handmade community and wonderful vendors like Hello!Lucky for making it a joy to do what we love!

Thanks Modern Mouse! If you live in the Bay Area, go say hello! The shop is located at 2228 S Shore Ctr, Ste A, Alameda, CA 94501.

Bridal Accessories by Twigs & Honey

We're absolutely drooling over these bridal accessories by Twigs & Honey. We spotted their collection over on the lovely blog Honey Kennedy, and since then have been adoring everything they showcase. Their use of vintage laces and delicate silks provide the perfect mix of classic and feminine. Plus, their new 2012 collection includes beaded and rhinestone crowns, seriously stunning!

You can view all Twigs and Honey products here, enjoy!

Store Feature: Urbanic

Some of the most significant members of the Hello!Lucky family tree are our trusty wholesale carriers. Though many of these vendors live far far away, we still think of them as close friends. We’re delighted to begin a regular blog feature in which we visit the amazing spaces that carry our greeting cards and gifts. These stores make the H!L name shine and so we're excited to give you a deeper look into their lovely boutiques and indy shops. Today we're visiting Urbanic, a sweet paper boutique in Los Angeles started 5 years ago by adorable husband and wife team Audrey Tantaros and Joshua Woollen.

Can you tell us a little bit about the neighborhood where Urbanic is located? Urbanic is located on Abbot Kinney Blvd in the Venice area of Los Angeles. Our street is full of hip, eclectic shops and restaurants in the local neighborhood of Venice (not the touristy part). Abbot Kinney is a creative shopping strip and bursting with good food, style, and design. An absolute must see destination when visiting Los Angeles!

What inspired you to open Urbanic? I've had a love of all things paper for as long as I can remember. My husband and I shared a long distance relationship across the country when we first met through letter writing, so the sentiment of a written letter will always be important to us. Once engaged and on the hunt for invitations we realized how difficult it was to find options that were unique and a reflection of who we were.  All of this combined with a dream of becoming a boutique owner gave me an A-HA moment to open Urbanic.

How long have you been carrying Hello!Lucky cards? Since we opened 5 years ago! H!L was one of our very first lines at the shop and have been with us ever since.

Do you have a favorite or best selling card from us? Quite honestly, our customers love all of what we choose from Hello!Lucky. Different seasons bring on different favorites. I usually try keep "birthday girl" in stock because she is part of what drew me into the line originally, and of course the sock monkey is always a hit. Lately the seagulls and L.A postcard greetings have been some of our best sellers.

From what's selling well  right now what do you think is the next big paper or wedding trend? Pops of interest and unexpected color (ie. edge painting, backing patterns, printed center wraps, neon). Handwriting fonts - be them casual or script, people are loving fonts that have character and they've never seen before. Novelty Reception Pieces - drink flags, coasters, and signage of every sort!

Anything else? We're thrilled to be the first boutique featured on the HL blog!

Thanks Urbanic for all your beautiful work! If you live in the Los Angeles area, go say hello! The shop is located at 1644 Abbot Kinney Boulevard, Venice, California 90291

Porcelain Valentines

Happy Rustic Farm week everyone! To wrap up the end of our country chic themed posts, we want to share the artistic creations by our friend and colleague Corie. Every week we look forward to her Lucky Friday posts, and always get a kick out of her cheeky greeting card descriptions. Corie carries on her humor in her own art, too! Her etsy shop coriejcole is filled with miniature porcelain figurines, that are equally as hilarious as her posts. We're loving her Gray Squirrel Eating Heart-Shaped Cookie, especially because Valentine's Day is right around the corner!

Check out Corie's etsy shop here!

Gaga for Gingham

In celebration of Rustic Farm week, we're channeling all the details that make us love country weddings. One of the most recognizable patterns has to be gingham, and we're going gaga for it! At the first glance of these gingham patterned plates we envisioned a large picnic style table setting with lots of fresh fruits and garden flowers. Paired with simple white linens or vintage lace, these dishes would be downright adorable.

Jcrew knows how to pull off patterns the right way. Matching your fiance might seem cheesy at first, but these gingham patterned getups could definitely dazzle in a photo save the date.

We absolutely need these gingham cupcake liners!

Can't you see this gingham washi tape as the ultimate decor accessory? There are endless ways to spruce up a simple setup by adding a little patterned tape. We can't get enough of it!

Hello!Holidays! Lucky List for the Chef

chef2 hello_lucky-gifts_for_chefs

1. Kitchen Magic Twisty Whisk

Icy blue is a hot color for spring. We've seen it on clothing, in print, and in tons of displays. We were super excited to see Anthropologie came out with an uber cute (and trendy) kitchen whisk! Its twisted prongs and silicone grips make whisking a breeze. We'd love to see it peeking out of our stockings!

2. Slate Chalkboard Cheese Board

Chalkboards are taking over! We love the fact that this slate cheese board can be washed and reused for labeling cheeses, desserts, or any of your favorite hor d'oeuvres. The kitchen can't do without it!

3. Cheese Markers

It's hard to ignore these adorable cheese markers. Each one is backed with a glazed pattern that takes adorable one step farther. And the best part? The artist is a San Francisco neighbor! Fresh cheese is always stocked in our fridge and making appearances at Hello!Lucky gatherings, so we'll definitely be wishing for a set of these this year.

4. KitchenAid Satin Copper Stand Mixer

Need we say more? Perhaps the KitchenAid stand mixer is the ultimate gift for anyone who uses a kitchen, but in satin copper? Yes please!

5. Bluebottle Coffee subscription here

Fortunately for us, a Bluebottle Coffee shop resides only one short block away from the Hello!Lucky SF office, and we can't count how many New Orleans Style iced coffees were consumed by our staff this summer. A perfect gift to give any caffeine lover is a subscription to Bluebottle's blends! There are various options at various prices, so sign up your friends/family now!

6. Pure & Good Hand Soap

Simply stated, it's pure and good. Having pretty soap in the kitchen not only makes the space look cleaner (our secret trick!) but this product is totally reliable. Anthropologie strikes again with the icy blue accents, and why not protect the fragile hands of our loved ones and cooks? That's why we'd love to find this bottle wrapped up under our tree!

7. Herbs de Provence in Pottery Crock

It's a nice touch to have an organized (and attractive) collection of herbs and spices. Herbes de Provence (the French mix of choice), adds provincial flavor to any dish. We sprinkle this sophisticated blend of savory, fennel, basil, thyme and lavender on almost everything. To have our favorite herbs stored in a perfect little pot is just the right touch!

8. Pressed Glass Mixing Bowls

This set of three pressed glass mixing bowls would love a home in any kitchen. They're durable, stackable, and downright adorable! Either in jadeite or milk white, you can't do without 'em.

9. Tartine Cookbook

His/her croissants or morning buns may not turn out as scrumptious as the real thing, or maybe they will, but it's no shock that we all swear by this cookbook. Tartine, San Francisco's treasured cafe and bakery, earned it's constant line of hungry folks out the door. Yes, we are drooling while thinking about it! Better prepare your ovens, because baking just launched to another level!

10. Chez Panisse Cafe Cookbook

A few of us had the pleasure of meeting Alice Waters, founder of Chez Panisse, earlier this year. We were shaken with inspiration and delight as she greeted us with the warmth and kindness of a real friend. This cookbook not only reflects the qualities of the historically successful restaurant, but it brings the goodness home. Yes, we still may never get a reservation, but who said we can't pretend the kitchen is the real place?!

Custom Holiday Card Bonanza!

hammerpress

We are soooo excited about our new collection of custom holiday cards! It was such a pleasure getting to collaborate with artists that we've been coveting for years like Hammerpress...

darling_clementine

and Darling Clementine (how adorable are these?)...

jolby

Jolby did a series of  cards that feature their signature quirky characters - the rabbit with a Santa hat on each ear is just too hilarious...

Karin_Soderquist-2-72dpi

Love these winter animals by Karin Soderquist...

Office_of_Nature-2-72dpi

and how about these charming type-based designs by Office of Nature?

Lab_Partners-1-72dpi

We also worked with some of our fav old friends like Lab Partners...

...and, of course, the always geniusy Esther Aarts...

SusyJack-5a-72dpi

We're also super excited about our new accordion format! An excellent solution to either the problem of not being able to get everyone into one shot (this is our big problem - squirrelly toddlers don't make for a really great family portrait!  Plus there's always too much fun stuff to share!)

gifted

SusyJack* did a couple of really gorgeous accordion cards, among others, for us this year...

Anyhoo, we were so thrilled to get to work with some of our illustration idols (this just the tip 'o' the iceberg, bye the bye!), we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Triumphantly Announcing Our New Website!

HL-holidaygroup-1-72dpi

Drumroll, please...We are thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-spankin'-new website!  We've been laboring over this baby for months and months and are sooo excited that it's finally (finally!) here!

tomfrost-1-72dpi

The new site includes a fab new collection of custom holiday photo cards: This year we got together 16 of our favorite illustrators/designers—the likes of Susy*Jack, Hammerpress, Tom Frost (featured above), Lab Partners and more—and collaborated on a whole collection of fun and unique holiday cards.  We can't wait for you to see them!

desert_skyline1

Additionally, the new site features beautiful photography by Edyta Szyszlo...we had so much fun styling these shots!

cape_cod1

We also have a gorgeous new wedding invitation collection with Anne Smith (another illustrator we've admired/been deeply envious of for years and years)...

SusyJack-4-72dpi

And we're thrilled to introduce our brand-new customization tool, which is going to make it a breeze to customize cards.  It's super cool, if we do say so ourselves, and allows you to change colors, choose fonts and drop in photos on the fly. It makes ordering fun and easy and gives you a lot of control over the final result.

You can also send your order straight to print (that's how much control you have over design, people!) to cut down on the turnaround time.  Normally, it can take 1-2 business days (or weeks, for those of you prone to dilly-dallying!) to approve a manually-created proof, so this is an exciting new feature.  Of course, you still can have our designers put their finishing touches on your design or incorporate any special requests, but how awesome is that??

ny_personalize

That being said, please bear with us as we get settled into our new digs (there are bound to be a few hiccups along the way!). Some products may be temporarily unavailable online while we get our shop in order, but we promise they'll be back soon!  If you have any questions or need help with a product that is currently not available on our site, don't hesitate to drop us a line or give us a ring! We'd love to hear from you! US: info@hellolucky.com or 415.355.0008  UK: ukinfo@hellolucky.com or 020 7378 9740

Prairie Collective is an SF favorite

Document1

We're sure all you blog lovers out there are familiar with Design*Sponge's Friday column, "We Like it Wild." Here in San Francisco, we love it wild. Fortunately, we have access to the most creative wild collectors in the area! To continue with the ecological theme, we're thrilled to shine a little light on the crew behind the scenes.

Local shop Prairie Collective provides top quality floral arrangements, and home & personal accessories - one location, two businesses. What we love most is their use of natural, raw materials and clean presentations. Studio Choo, the floral purveyor, is the collaboration of Alethea and Jill, friends and florists with an eye for design. They are also the authors of We Like it Wild, and get to scour the land for beautiful, naturally grown plants.

Pomp & Plumage visits H!L

il_570xN

Happy Monday everyone!  We've been busily rearranging and organizing our storefront lately and we're so excited to have a place to show off new products and really welcome guests into our studio and shop.  As luck would have it, our window caught the eye of Denise and Ian, a remarkably talented couple from Canada who popped by on their vacation.  They own the gorgeous etsy shop Pomp & Plumage and we instantly fell in love with their handmade hair accessories and boutonnieres.

We LOVE the rustic twines and feathers mixed with bits of dainty lace and other romantic embellishments and we're already imagining them paired oh so nicely with a Naturalist themed wedding.  Be sure to check their website and Etsy shop for more fabulous creations - they even can be customized to suit any fancy!
