Claus Porto - New collection

Wild OrchidLavendre Claus Porto soap packaging has always been divine, but we were blown away by the new Fantasia and Classico collections. This line extends beyond the vibrant art deco vibe of the original line to delicate designs with a more eclectic feel.

Every detail of the packaging design is so beautiful and inspiring! And, needless to say, they would make amazing gifts or favors!

Oh my goodness, the Paul Smith furniture stop on Abermarle Street in London is to die for! We drooled over this photo of a young Angelica Houston by iconic Vogue fashion photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri - see more from the exhibition here. The back room, pictured above, is especially tempting - chock full of one-of-a-kind vintage finds!

9 Albemarle Street, London (Green Park or Bond Street tube), open Monday - Saturday, 10:30 - 6.

The Powderpuff Girls

Powderpuff Girls We were thrilled to meet the lovely Katie Reynolds, beautician and founder of the Powderpuff Girls, last week. With their retro-chic pink outfits and impeccable beauty know-how, these girls are a must-have for any stylish party, including hen nights/bridal showers. They offer a full range of on-site services, including mani-pedis, make-up and hair styling and massage. Seriously, ladies, there is no excuse for not looking your gosh-darned best, and the Powderpuff Girls make it simple!

Room

Room Storefront Last week, we made the thrilling discovery of Room, a brand new vintage store on Valencia Street, one of our favorite shopping streets in the San Francisco.

RoomRoom Vintage Chair

It is chock full of fabulous vintage furniture and ephemera, and we found ourselves jauntily humming a familiar Julie Andrews tune as we browsed through a brilliantly curated selection of our favorite things: old wooden rulers, vintage globes, and cozy arm chairs...

...Matadors, school house tables, and Russian Dolls! We'll happily make "room" chez nous for any of these items (and, indeed, we did!).

Shauna's Vintage Wedding Dress

Shauna’s Wedding DressShauna’s Wedding Dress Many thanks to Kathryn at Snippet & Ink for posting these beautiful pictures of Hello!Lucky designer Shauna Leytus in her gorgeous vintage wedding dress (along with all kinds of other fabulous wedding details) for her Real Wedding Saturday this weekend! Shauna's dress is the one her grandmother originally wore in 1953. She looked stunning!

Western Wedding Invitations

Western wedding invitations We originally created these Old West-inspired wedding invitations for a couple getting married on a ranch in Sun River, Oregon. Since then, we've adapted the design to a number of stationery items, including save the date cards, thank you notes and even coasters, and added personalized details such as an icon of the state of Texas, above. The invitation design features cowboy boot stitch, and a pattern of vintage stars inspired by riding spurs, and old-fashioned type faces. Perfect for riding off into the sunset! The invitation is available here and can be customized by our designers.

Vintage Coaches

Among the many highlights were the vintage coaches provided for guest transportation to the ceremony and reception. Available for hire through Cumbria Classic Coaches, these 1940s- and 50s-era coaches (with charming names like "Florence" and "Harvey") are full of deco details and upholstered in gorgeous, Japanese-inspired velvets. The photos above are mostly of "Florence", a green and cream 1948 AEC Regal. The company also furnished the charming 1936 Rover which served as the bride and groom's getaway car.

Vintage Clothing at the Flea

Flea 26Flea 21Flea 27Flea 20 The flea market is vintage fashion maven's paradise (guilty!). Despite having closets bursting with the stuff, Eunice and I once again found ourselves succumbing to the irresistible temptation to try on all things sparkly, mod/polyester, be-feathered, and fur-trimmed. Our mother was a 60's fashion diva (as well as a home ec queen and Avon lady), so the experience is a lot like playing dress-up in her closet!

Our favorite new find is King Vintage, where we found the gorgeous blue fur-trimmed coat above. Next stop: the Vintage Fashion Expo taking place on March 15-16 at the Nob Hill Masonic Center. We'll be there with hats on!

(and hats off to Anna Hurley for catching us in the act!)

The Flea Returns!

Flea 26Flea 12Flea 9Flea 8 After two straight months of being rained out, this month's Alameda Flea Market was hands-down one of the best in recent memory. A gorgeous sunny day, tons of vendors, and a huge array of fabulous finds. We have to confess we went a little haywire (we now are the proud owners of many more polyester frocks than one can possibly find an excuse to wear, several fur-trimmed coats, a hand-sewn piece of wall art, and much more). The flea market is sensory overload, so this week our blog will be 100% dedicated to feeding you bite-sized portions of our most delectable finds! Stay tuned for more pics...

Mothology

MothologyMothologyMothology We love the French flea-market inspired goods at Mothology, including this silver-plated toast rack - perfect for holding letters and stationery (unfortunately, it's sold out but you can find similar ones on ebay). Other favorites: blue milk glass vases (these would be lovely centerpieces for a beach wedding or summer party) and dainty bird finial pot-de-creme dishes. Enjoy!

Second Hand Rose

Arts & Crafts FlowerRed ChinoiserieTaupe ChinoiserieGreen FlockedDeco FloralGroovy Floral Vintage patterns are a huge source of inspiration for us, vintage wall paper especially. Second Hand Rose in New York is hands-down the best source, with a large, well-edited selection.

Vintage wallpaper (or any wall paper, for that matter), can be used as the inspiration for the style of your entire wedding, from the invitations, to the day itself. It makes perfect place mats (just mount a second sheet of heavy cardstock to the back to prevent curling), and strips make elegant napkin rings. The paper can be used to wrap vases (we suggest using Chinese tea tins, and gluing the paper around it to create a lovely bud vase), and to decorate favors and program covers (wrapping a patterned band around the program, for example).

Add intrigue your reception cards by double-pasting (fancy lingo for gluing the paper evenly to the back of a second card) the paper to the back of the cards, creating an expected design element. You can double-paste the paper to the backs of your table number cards as well.

Note to brides: We'd love to design custom wedding invitations based on any of these patterns, so if you like what you see, call us!

Eunice found some lovely pendant lamps for her apartment, and I found a fabulous 4 ft by 6 ft vintage mirror. We love all of the light fixtures, tiles, and hardware at Ohmega. This is what Restoration Hardware was meant to be!

Eunice's Apartment - Work in Progress

Hallway to bedroomHallway ClosetKitchen tableBedside tableOrange chair and guitarBedroom Bureau As Hello!Lucky's Creative Director, Eunice sets the tone for our pretty, witty, vintage-inspired aesthetic. She describes her San Francisco apartment, which she shares with boyfriend Daniel James, as having the aesthetic of a "eccentric, well-traveled great-aunt." It has a cozy, arty, bohemian feel with well-worn books, musical instruments, vibrant colors, and artifacts from their travels. Many of the pieces come from flea market excursions, and the color palette is inspired by a handmade quilt sewn by Daniel's mother Hope, an interior designer who lives in London.

Eunice is in the process of decorating the place, and painting some stunning murals on the walls. Watch this space to see how it progresses!

Today, we still make a point to visit whenever we're in the East Bay -- the shop always has a refreshingly eclectic assortment of both new and vintage home decor and gifts, like this whimsical Birdhouse mobile by LA-based Ige Design. We absolutely love Maison D'Etre!

We visited DeAnna in her studio this week to pick up the fabulous red feathered and netted custom hat shown above. The hat is so ridiculously fabulous that we squealed with delight again (and again!) as DeAnna showed us all the different ways to wear it. DeAnna regularly creates custom hats for fashion designer Erin Mahoney, and was also in the midst of gorgeous polka dotted numbers for Barney's.

Idea for brides: Have DeAnna create a custom hat for your reception dress, or a netted number for a Jackie-O-style get-away outfit!
