Dyna Moe

Thanks to Bethany for cluing us in to Dyna Moe, the amazing illustrator behind the Mad Men Yourself application we blogged about last week!  She's done a ton of illustration work for Mad Men, including this incredible Joan Holloway paper doll for Season 2!

And, what's more, she does custom illustrations of couples for their save the dates and wedding invitations!

Cute, right?

Wedding cakes + stationery

Tracy from The Buttercream Studio just sent us this photo of a cute wedding cake she created based on our Chandelier wedding invitation by EIEIO. It reminded us that wedding invitations and stationery can be great source of inspiration for cakes - sometimes the design motifs on the invitation translate really well into 3-D and can help carry a consistent style through the details of wedding day.

Another cute cake design by The Buttercream Studio - not based on our Wildwood wedding invitation directly,  but the anemones sure do go well together - this would be so cute for a formal garden wedding!

New York & Chicago destination invitations

We're thrilled to unveil the latest in our "Visit..." destination wedding invitation and save the date series, by Lab Partners...Chicago!

We also recently completed this Visit New York invitation suite in curry & coal.

We created this matching reception card to complete the suite. Cute, right?

Red, White & Blue Wedding Invitations

Thanks to Misti Layne for sharing these gorgeous pics of the red, white and blue Classic Cowboy wedding invitations we created for Maggie and John's June wedding at Rancho Nicasio.

Kay Nielsen and a lovely faery wedding

Growing up, we LOVED the sumptuous fairytale illustrations of early 20th century Danish illustrator Kay Nielsen.

Aren't these gorgeous? They've big source of design inspiration to us of late!  So we totally thought of him when we saw these amazing faery wedding photographs by Elizabeth Messina via her blog, Kiss the Groom:

Wedding stationery shopping list

We just learned that a bunch of our coordinating wedding stationery was featured in a recent edition of Brides local magazines! We're so thrilled about this because we always get asked whether we can do coordinating items to match a bride's wedding invitation suite. The answer is YES, and with our new digital printing option, it is super affordable! Thanks, Brides!

Tin Can Wedding Invitations

We spotted this lovely and ingenious wedding invitation by Greek designer Chris Trivaz today via Lovely Package.  We just love it!

Being invitation designers and crafters, however, our imaginations started churning re: how you might make these and incorporate them into the rest of the wedding design!

Plain tin cans are so beautiful and graphic that we can totally see using them as vessels for pretty flowers (photo via D.S. Brennan)

We can also envision spray painting the cans in vibrant colors, and even and stenciling them with simple initials or a graphic pattern. (via Peapods photo stream)

Colorful baker's twine would work in lieu of the kraft twine (via School Locker)

Joel Dewberry pattern inspiration

Joel Dewberry recently launched his new Deer Valley collection, including these two gorgeous patterns.

We just love looking at Joel's work; it's always so fresh and lovely. To top it off, he's once of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. His patterns favored heavily into Eunice's wedding design, including the invitations, and a custom deck of playing cards (photos forthcoming soon via Martha!).

We adapted the patterns to a more muted, feminine palette to create letterpress note cards and wedding invitations.

Joel's Ginseng and Aviary collections are the inspiration between these two gorgeous custom wedding albums from Flyleaf Books and our Sparrows wedding invitation in espresso and rose, available both letterpress and digitally printed.

Hello!Lucky: Best Wedding Invitations!

Whoa! We just got named "Best Wedding Invitations" in San Francisco Weekly's Best of San Francisco 2009!  H!L greeting card retailer The Bell Jar also won in the "Best New Gift Boutique" category - double whoa!! (Congratulations, Sasha!). Even though we create wedding invitations for brides all over the country (and world!), it's an extra-special honor to be recognized by our home town, which is so full of talented designers (many of whom we got the chance to catch up with this week at the National Stationery Show). We'd like to thank the Academy, our husbands, all our dedicated, creative and talented employees and clients (you know who you are), Richard Siebert, who taught a couple of cute girls how to print way back when while regaling us with stories of Berkeley in the 70's, chain smoking and wearing a "Bianca's Smut Shack" t-shirt, and all the mentors and friends who have helped us along the way...our mom and dad...blah blah blah...(cue music!!). Thanks again, San Francisco Weekly!

Wallpaper: DIY wedding invitation resource!

We found this fantastic book of wall paper samples at the flea a couple weeks ago - it's full of great patterns that would be perfect for making DIY wedding invitations and cards!

Sigh - love this gorgeous floral pattern!

And this pretty yellow rose and lacy stripes!

This tropical pattern would be great for a beach wedding invitation...

...and this pattern would be great for a modern wedding invitation!

We also found some great western patterns...

And this fabulous whimsical deer and wildlife pattern - perfect for a rustic wedding invitation!

And finally there's this adorable Scandanavian-inspired design!

How would you use these papers, you might ask? There are so many possibilities! The  photo above shows just a couple of examples:

- Double-pasting to the back of the invitation - we recommend mixing different patterns! - Belly bands - Envelope liners (get an easy DIY kit here)

Can't find enough of an unusual vintage pattern? If it's in the public domain, you can scan and reproduce it with a color printer. Or, just use the patterns as inspiration in designing your own wedding invitations.

Wallpaper can also be used for napkin rings, place mats, and to cover containers for your wedding reception!

Butterfly Wedding Invitations & Details

We were recently featured in One Wed's butterfly inspiration board, and it reminded us of how these delicate critters can be such a sweet motif for a garden wedding or (when treated in a more graphic manner as shown above by Lushbella - imagine these as seating cards!) for a modern urban wedding.

Classic Dresden foil butterflies (and birds!) are the perfect embellishment for bouquets, centerpieces, or cakes. Gold butterflies and birds from Rock Candy Studios, and silver ones from Retro Cafe Art.

New Joel Dewberry & EIEIO designs!

After months of anticipation, the new Joel Dewberry and EIEIO designs are available for purchase on our website! The Sparrows wedding invitation design, above, based on Joel's Aviary collection is one of our favorites.

Joel's gorgeous fabrics can be found in all kinds of applications like this gorgeous tote bag from Ivan & Mary that we spotted on Style Me Pretty last fall. You can also buy his fabric by the yard here that you can use for crafting projects (think bridesmaid purses, fabric-covered  headbands, welcome bags, and table runners!).

 Shangri-la (show above) is another favorite.

EIEIO's  modern designs are sleek and refreshing. Meadow (shown above) is so perfect for an outdoor wedding, we can barely stand it! The subtle lines look gorgeous letterpress printed.

We're also loving Poppy Stripe in this red, gravel and pool colorway, inspired by many of EIEIO's beautiful paper designs (especially Flower Pop). Again, EIEIO's papers are perfect for crafting accessories -  napkin rings, wrapping favors, envelope liners, you name it!

Operation Aisle Style

Monogram & cross stitch love!

Heather Lee over at Brides Chicago  just emailed us with this adorable story on monograms (for which we contributed a cute cross-stitched monogram!). We love the idea of getting creative with monograms and are especially fond of the love birds by Paper + Cup and the cool showposter style one by Pica Press.

We love Anna Bond's illustrations - she's the owner of Rifle Design and has a fabulous blog.  We adore (covet, are wildly envious of, etc.) her whimsical and naive style...

Modern Creative Bridal Fair

 

We recently blogged about the fabulous Stacy McCain, and are thrilled to be participating in a bridal fair she's organizing with Dekker Photography on February 26th, featuring a collection of wonderful vendors, including Magnolia Floral Design, Cake Work, Best Beverage Catering, Amy Kuschel,  Got Light?, and Papineau Calligraphy.

The party will be on Thursday the 26th of February from 6-9pm and will be a low-key, intimate affair (unlike many of the large, impersonal bridal fairs out there!). There will be an open bar, delicious catering, live music and beautiful decor. So come on by, have some food and drinks with us and have fun! Tickets are available at

Lovely Letterpress

We happened upon these photos of  a charming letterpress wedding invitation suite via Inspired Bride and  (oh so) beautiful paper.  Maddy, bride-to-be and writer of  Inspired Bride, is also a graphic designer and lover of letterpress (we're with you Maddy!).  And, she asked us to print the beautiful stationery she designed.

We have long been huge fans of Jean Orlebeke over at EIEIO - she's created an amazing range of modern gift wrap designs, which are sold at high-end boutiques (think MoMA design store). She's hands-down one of the most talented designers we know, so we were thrilled when she agreed to collaborate with us on an exclusive collection of wedding invitation designs!
