Moroccan Save the Dates

Geometric save the date card Today we continue this week's Save the Date theme in conjunction with our promotion on Style Me Pretty! We created this intricate save the date card for a multi-cultural couple who are getting married in Lausanne, Switzerland. The pattern blends Moroccan tile work and Mexican textile patterns to reflect the couple's travels.

Apple Farm Save the Dates

Apple Farm Save the Dates In light our current save the date give-away on Style Me Pretty, we thought we'd feature some of our latest letterpress save the date designs! This one was created for Tom and Heather (last names and details have been changed), a wonderful couple who are getting married on an apple farm in Cape Cod this fall. We designed the save the date to be reminiscent of vintage fruit crate packaging, and letterpress printed it on a natural cardstock for a weathered feel.

Marry Me! by Hello!Lucky Wedding Invitations

Marry Me! Letterpress Wedding InvitationsMarry Me! Letterpress Wedding InvitationsMarry Me! Letterpress Wedding InvitationsMarry Me! Letterpress Wedding Invitations We're thrilled to announce our new line of letterpress wedding invitations, Marry Me! by Hello!Lucky. We often hear feedback about letterpress invitations being out of the range of an average wedding budget, so we decided to try and do something about it -- we designed these invitations specifically be simple to print to reduce the amount of press time involved. They're also offered in a more limited range of colors to help streamline the production process, and allow us to ship them in just 10 business days. Since letterpress is an artisanal printing method, it's never going to be cheap, but we hope our effort helps bring stylish letterpress invitations within reach. Enjoy! Confetti Cakes

Confetti CakesConfetti CakesConfetti CakesConfetti Cakes We adore the work of Elisa Strauss over at Confetti Cakes! Her whimsical, lucious floral cakes are being featured in the current issue of InStyle Weddings and were featured on Bride's 50 most beautiful wedding cakes earlier this year. These cakes make us want to design wedding invitations and stationery just to coordinate! Congratulations, Elisa!

Fall Wedding by Jubilee Lau Events

Jubilee Lau Events Fall WeddingJubilee Lau Events Fall WeddingJubilee Lau Events Fall WeddingJubilee Lau Events Fall Wedding Many thanks to Jubilee Lau of Jubilee Lau Events for sharing these gorgeous photos of a Fall-themed wedding she designed last year at Thomas Fogarty Winery, a stunning Bay Area venue in the Santa Cruz mountains with views extending in every direction. Jubilee collaborated with floral designer Nancy Liu Chin to create stunning floral arrangements featuring pumpkins and squashes with flowers spilling out of them. They used oranges, golds, and reds in the color palette, which coordinated with the green winery surroundings. The couple, Julie and Jay, looked stunning, too, and the entire event was filled with joy (as a wedding should be)! Congratulations to the couple, and the Jubilee and Nancy for creating an unforgettable event!

Lab Partners San Francisco Print

Lab Partners San Francisco Print We had a lovely visit from Sarah Labieniec of Lab Partners yesterday. We had just finished letterpress printing the second edition of their San Francisco print, now available once again at their etsy shop! Once again, we all drooled over their delectable illustration details, including the tiny weather vanes on the tops of the painted ladies. This print is amazing in person! Sarah designed several cards for us last year (including this fabulous birthday card). Read their blog for oodles of ideas and inspiration!

Western Wedding Invitations

Western wedding invitations We originally created these Old West-inspired wedding invitations for a couple getting married on a ranch in Sun River, Oregon. Since then, we've adapted the design to a number of stationery items, including save the date cards, thank you notes and even coasters, and added personalized details such as an icon of the state of Texas, above. The invitation design features cowboy boot stitch, and a pattern of vintage stars inspired by riding spurs, and old-fashioned type faces. Perfect for riding off into the sunset! The invitation is available here and can be customized by our designers.

Rebecca ThussRebecca ThussRebecca ThussRebecca Thuss We had the privilege of working with eminent stylist, creative director, and crafter Rebecca Thuss on the decor of Martha Stewart Weddings editor Shana Faust's wedding, pictured in the bottom image above, for which we created our signature Cherry Blossom wedding invitation. Her gorgeous website features beautiful examples of her ground-breaking work, and is one of our favorite sources of inspiration!

Vintage Coaches

Among the many highlights were the vintage coaches provided for guest transportation to the ceremony and reception. Available for hire through Cumbria Classic Coaches, these 1940s- and 50s-era coaches (with charming names like "Florence" and "Harvey") are full of deco details and upholstered in gorgeous, Japanese-inspired velvets. The photos above are mostly of "Florence", a green and cream 1948 AEC Regal. The company also furnished the charming 1936 Rover which served as the bride and groom's getaway car.

Moving a letterpress studio

Cynthia, our cylinder pressMoveMoveMoveMoveMoveMoveMoveMoveMove Moving a letterpress studio is no small fry. We promised Pat, our rigger (someone who specializes in moving heavy equipment, relying on old-fashioned principles of loan balancing, cantilevering, etc.), who claims that "he's getting too old for this" (p'shaw!), that we won't do it again anytime soon. In the meantime, Pat did teach us how to drive a forklift, so we can maybe we can be more helpful next time (not that we're saying there will be a next time)!

In total, we moved over 25,000 pounds of printing equipment, and about 800 boxes (many thanks to the charming crew from the Delancey Street Foundation). Our once-loved studio on 3rd Street is now quiet, much to the relief of Diane, the building's Assistant Manager, and we have a lovely new home in the heart of San Francisco.

From top: Cynthia, our Heidelberg cylinder press, on a flat bed truck; being lowered by a forklift; Pat, our rigger, driving the forklift; the Heidelberg windmills (Karen, Peter, and John Wayne) in place for wiring; Toast and Jillian of Because We Can with Jennifer, our head printer; Mark, who helped with the rigging, showing off his tattoos; Greg, our mechanic, who also helped with the rigging; our new space at 977 Howard Street beginning to fill up with boxes of letterpress printed cards; our old space near the end of our move.

Butterfly Seating Cards

Butterfly Wedding Seating Cards We created these lovely butterfly seating cards by die-cutting blush paper and folding it in half to great a three-dimensional feel. Wedding guests' names are written in calligraphy on one side, the table number on the other. We displayed them by pinning them in a scattered formation to sheer netting with pearl-headed pins, arranging the guests names in (more or less!) alphabetical order. The effect was gorgeous and perfect for a garden wedding.

Our original inspiration for these was a 19th century naturalist wedding theme. The guests' place cards were placed in bits of moss under bell jars (designed in collaboration with Fork & Spoon Productions), and there were birdcages overflowing with roses, a garden hedge surrounding the dance floor, and large apothecary jars full of sweets. It was lovely!
