Sharla Flock Designs

Sharla Flock bouquet We first encountered Sharla Flock's exquisite floral arrangements at our friend Serena's San Francisco wedding (and later learned that she's been featured in Martha Stewart Weddings and other leading magazines, natch!).

This natural table-top arrangement goes perfectly with the vintage-inspired vase and votives!

Message in a bottle save the date

Message in a bottleMessage in a bottle While 3-d invitations can be a little extravagant (postage costs can exceed $3 a pop!), we love it when they're tied conceptually to the design or theme - like these message in a bottle save the dates we created last year. The message was tied with a blue ribbon and inserted in the bottle, which was filled with a bit of sand, and mailed in a simple cardboard mailer. So sweet! (P.S. this is a great DIY project!)

Real Wedding: Mary-Kevin and Patrick

Peony bouquetFlower girlBoutenniere

This week we're thrilled share these gorgeous pictures of the wedding of Mary-Kevin (founder of Luxe Paperie) and her husband, Patrick. The wedding took place on July 19 in La Jolla, California. The bride wore a beautiful gown by Jenny Yoo, and used pink peonies in her hair and bouquet. The groom wore a summer suit from J. Crew and an orchid.

The ceremony took place at Calumet Park in La Jolla, with a garden party at the lovely Darlington House. Each guest received a program and a fan decorated with a pretty DIY patterned flag that said "Welcome."

The reception was on a veranda surrounded by lovely rose bushes...

Mary-Kevin used lots of DIY details throughout the celebration. She writes:

We also made our favors, which were kraft boxes filled with salt water taffy from my most favorite sweet shop...Marini's at the beach in Santa Cruz.  We tied the boxes with brown and white baker's twine and a tag that we made using a custom rubber stamp and white tags that you can purchase at any office supply store.  My mom also participated in the diy fun...she made the beautiful champagne colored silk shantung runners that were used on the dining tables!

Mary-Kevin's stunning (and, we're sure, delicious!) cake was by Miette Patisserie, one of our favorite bakeries in San Francisco:

Mary-Kevin used our Cherry Blossom wedding invitation with calligraphy by the talented Crystal Kluge. We provided patterned papers and images from the invite, which she used to make custom rubber stamps and other DIY details.

An avid collector of milk glass, the bride used several stunning pieces to present the cake and other baked goods/sweets. The couple asked guests to fill out "Wish" tickets - such a cute idea!

Inspired Cake!

French Deco Invitation French Deco Detail

French Deco is one of our favorite wedding invitation designs.   Inspired by a vintage French perfume label, it reminds us of the Great Gatsby and a sparkling '20's charm and elegance.  We think that the invitation really sets the tone for any event (ok, so perhaps we're a little biased, but still!), and love the idea of drawing inspiration from the invitations for all kinds of event details.  So when we came across this cake designed by the talented Shinmin of I Dream of Cake for one of our brides, we couldn't help but emit a little yip of pleasure! We're sure it was as delicious as it is stylish.

DIY Thank You Notes

DIY Thank You Note As everyone knows, we're big fans of DIY crafts so were excited to see these cute DIY thank you card projects on Martha Stewart (from the Fall issue of Weddings).

Messenger Birds

Most projects come with how-to instructions or templates. While some are a little hard to imagine doing in multiple (hand-cutting 100 intricate paper cutouts with an exacto blade, anyone?), others like this birdie card (which basically just entails xeroxing clipart and embellishing with a little 3-D missive) are simple and sweet.

Ink Block Prints

Remember doing linoleum block prints in grade school? It's simple and great for multiples. Happy crafting!

NameBirdie!

Namebirdie logo We just came across NameBirdie on ritzybee and felt we had to spread the word!  Getting married is fun and all, but there are certain elements that are, frankly, a real drag.  Paperwork is right up there on our list (ok, well, Sabrina and I grew up with a dad who was a bureaucrat with the U.S. Government and spent a lot of time as kids "playing" with old forms and such, so I secretly sort of love filling out forms (sick, I know), but, boy, do I hate looking for the right forms to fill out!)

Easy as 1,2,3

NameBirdie is a brilliant service that allows you to change your name in a fabulous, no hassle, stress free way for the bargain price of $24.95 or $29.95 for their super fancy package.  Normally, a name change involves an attorney (expensive!) or collecting a myriad of forms and getting them all filled out properly.  With NameBirdie, it takes no time at all, and their service even creates notification letters to your banks, credit card companies and so on. Brilliant, genius idea!  Plus, though not as cute as some tarty lingerie from Agent Provocateur, they offer gift cards that make a fantastic bridal shower gift!  They are also doing a giveaway via ritzybee which you can enter here.  We heart them!

Real Wedding: Julia and Mathew

2893197684_b08137c8fd1.jpg We were thrilled to receive photos from friend and collaborator Julia's recent wedding, beautifully shot by Jennifer Causey.  Julia and Mathew were married at The Oaks on Long Island, a beautiful estate on the water.

The classic green and white color scheme was carried throughout. We love that Julia bucked tradition and had her bridesmaids select their own dresses in various shades of green.

The wedding was full of handcrafted details featuring Julia's illustrations, of course!

Fabulous garlands

Sophie Culvelier Sophie Cuvelier is a fabulous french artist we came across via frolic, who creates amazing garlands out of hand-dyed paper, feathers, and bits.  We love the colors, the whimsy and imperfect charm.  Adorable to hang in a playroom and how amazing would these look strung up in great quantities at a wedding? We are très inspired!

Two Girls and Some Flowers

The name really says it all; if "Fourteen People, Some Ink and a Handful of Vintage Presses" wasn't such a mouthful we may be tempted to take a leaf from their book! We learned of these two talented floral artists from a client who staged her wedding in the sculpture galley at Woburn Abbey and who subsequently sang their praises. Their service both on and in the run-up to the day were exemplary and a look at their website indeed bears testament to he beautiful work that they produce.

Black and White

The way they coordinated the flowers with delicate cake design taken from antique engravings is just sheer genius!

Pink bouquet

The beautiful hand-tied bouquet of roses and peonies in soft pastel tones would be the perfect choice for a bride wanting a classic, traditional look but the girls are equally competent at creating understated, modern elegance as seen in the striking bouquet of green Calla lilies or gorgeous orchid buttonhole(below).

Real Wedding: Liz and Ryan

Thanks to Audrey of Urbanic Paper Boutique for sharing these adorable photos of her friends' wedding.  The couple coordinated their invitations with Audrey and chose our Classic Cowboy letterpress wedding invitation.  We love this invitation (no bias here, of course) and were especially pleased with the eye catching color palette they settled on. 14.jpg

The invitation, in pool and lucky red inks, makes such a refreshingly cheery and bold statement for what is sure to be a festive day.

Liz and Ryan’s Wedding

The crisp color palette was evident in the the rest of the the thoughtfully planned details on the wedding day.  The cool blue of the Pacific Ocean provides such a lovely backdrop for the ceremony though we have to say that the popcorn bag seating cards take the cake!

Real Wedding: Sandy & Harry

Sandy and Harry Thanks to Jeannie Savage of Details Details Wedding and Event Planning and Ira Lippke Studios for sharing these stunning photos of Sandy and Harry's wedding this past August in Laguna Beach.  Sandy selected our Cherry Blossom design for her save the date cards and wedding invitations opting for bold and vibrant colors and modern typsestyles.

Cherry Blossom wedding invitations

The creative juices really started flowing when it came to the day of stationery. When Jeannie wondered if the seating cards could be in the exact shape of the blossoms on the invitations, our answer was an enthusiastic yes!

Diecut blossoms on colorful cardstock were artfully arranged on branches and featured calligraphy by Michele Papineau of Papineau Calligraphy.

Round menus fit perfectly into chargers and scallop labels reading "love sweet love" adorned take home candy bags.   Sandy and Harry also provided their guests with to-go boxes of comfort food liked grilled cheese sandwiches and burgers to satisfy their late night cravings.  A much appreciated touch, we're sure!

Real Wedding: Aleishall & Matthew

Girard invitation Thanks to Ritzy Bee for bringing our attention to these gorgeous photos of Aleishall & Matthew's wedding by photographer Mel Barrow. When we met Aleishall, she was running Olive & Peach, a delicious food site she had co-founded with long-time friend Katie Lee Joel, so it was natural that food should feature in their wedding invitation design. We created this pen-and-ink illustration of two pears, complemented by Aleishall's own gorgeous hand lettering, and letterpress printed it on coaster board.

Girard Maxon

Mel captured these gorgeous photos of their nuptials in Golden Gate Park.

Girard flowers

Love these romantic peony flower arrangements, and the sweet little hand-made ring box below!

Scrap

scrap2.jpg We took a quick field trip to Scrap last week - another fantastic reason to live in the Bay Area. Scrap (Scroungers Center for Reusable Art Parts) is a haven for crafters. All their material is donated, so you never know what you are going to find. The idea is to provide art materials at a low cost both to encourage creativity and to prevent our overcrowded landfills from becoming even worse. There are piles of fabric, yarn, paper, household items, and building materials available.

scrap3.jpg

The inventory changes constantly, so it's a new treasure hunt every time! Some of our discoveries included tiny vases, fabric and decorative metal ornaments.

scrap4.jpg

Our favorite finds were needlepoint holders, perfect for displaying vintage fabric scraps, lace or a cute print.
