Collectibles = Seating Cards

Chez Larsson chair collection The other weekend we watched Rachel Getting Married, and while the movie was a downer we were inspired by how they used eclectic collectibles as seating cards, each tagged with the guest's name. (Note: seating cards direct wedding guests to their tables, and are typically displayed on a table at the reception, creating the perfect opportunity to display a collection; they can also double as favors). This made us think of all the possibilities that could come from this idea! First off, miniature modern chairs, as in "please be seated" - available in different styles on eBay and via dollhouse miniature shops (photo via Chez Larsson's Flickr photostream)

Glass figurines

We also love the idea of using glass figurines, arranged by color (with each color corresponding to a different table).

Pez collection

Pez dispensers would be so perfect, again arranged by color (both photos above via Chez Larsson).

Tiny Cakes

Or how about tiny cakes and pastries from dollhouse supply shops (the ones above are from Small Portions)? Just about any small collectible item (from match boxes to match cars) could work, and make for a fabulous display.

Juju!

We've always been enormous fans of the whimsical style of Northern European childrens' clothes, toys and the general aesthetic, love anything that falls into the realm of fairy tales, and, of course, are mad for crafting.  Thus, when we stumbled across Juju (via Frolic!), we're were immediately obsessed. Dishtowel Table

Our Finnish is a little rusty (erm, that is, non-existent), but we gather that there are two books, Juju and Maja, that are filled with brilliant and creative ways to create wonderful things for children.  The books seem to emphasize being creative when choosing materials, as in this fabulous ruffled table cloth that appears to be made from dishclothes...

Sailboat

Maja is a book filled with adorable and amusing things for children.  Love this fabulous stage? Boat? Sigh, if only we understood Finnish - whatever it is, it clearly sparks the imagination!

Leaf Room

How fabulous would it be to grow up in a room that has been transformed into a quirky forest?  Love the mushroom stools...

Butterfly Mobile

This butterfly mobile is so gorgeous and looks like it would be a piece of cake to make!

Animal Butts

Ideas for animal costumes?  So much fun!  Especially love the hilarious racoon/Cheshire Cat/Lemur tail...

Fabrics

Juju has instructions for adorable children's clothes for everyday life, for weekdays and Sundays, for mundane and festive events. Projects include an apron for a novice artist, gown for a maiden or wings for a fairy. The designs are meant to be easy to make with a wonderful result.

Lime Skirt

Love this skirt that appears to be made from cute fabric and a scrap of lace (perhaps a bit of curtain, in the spirit of using random found bits?)

Girl in Cup

The quirky photography is fantastic as well...

Girl Out Window

So genius!  Sigh, we heart these books, even if we can't understand a word!

one girl cookies (mmm...cookies!)

We are totally enamored of One Girl Cookies (oh, if only we could live on cupcakes and hot cocoa with handmade marshmallows...)  They have an adorable shop in Brooklyn, and for those of us not fortunate enough to be able to pop by for an afternoon cappuccino and pointy cupcake, they ship! (well, maybe not the cappucino). shop2

The walls (and their bakery boxes) are decorated with family portraits.

brownies

70’s cake!

Remember those awesome sheet cakes from the 70's shaped like teddy bears, Darth Vader, Care Bears  (like the Barbie cake where the cake was a giant skirt with Barbie stuck in the middle of it?), covered with delicious blobs of frosting?  That's what this reminds us of! Perhaps we just have glorified memories of such cakes, since our mother was prone to making healthy (ish) desserts like carrot cake - delicious, but just not the giant sugar bomb one craves as a child!

mini cupcakes

So delicate!  These would be great in a dessert bar. So cute in their stripey wrappers.

cakes and concept boards

Love the cheery colors...a fun take on your standard wedding cake!

mini cakes

They make favors such as this cute, individually boxed, mini cakes

Animal Cake

Hilarious and adorable animal cookie encrusted cake.

cappucino and hot chocolate

Coveting the retro coffee cup, and oh, that marshmallow....dreamy!

In the studio with Dilek Sezen

Wedding pearl necklace Last week we got the chance to visit Dilek Sezen, a San Francisco jewelry designer, in her Union Street studio. She recently launched an affordable wedding jewelry line that is just stunning!

Sezen necklace and earrings

This pearl and diamond necklace is our favorite. So lovely!

Ring drawings

Dilek showed us some of the gorgeous water color drawings that she creates for each piece she designs. Originally from Turkey, she worked for many years as a jewelry designer at Tiffany & Company before starting her own line. We're so glad she did! Her eye is exquisite, and the experience of being in her cozy studio was such a nice break from the blinged-out, hard-sell environment of so many jewelry shops.

Custom design storyboard

Dilek specializes in custom designs, creating a story board and original drawings for each design. The one above was for a necklace that a husband gave to his wife on the birth of their first child that incorporated both their birth stones. So sweet!

Union St. studio/shop

Dilek's studio is tucked away down an alley off Union Street -- dare we say, a hidden gem!

Can't wait to see more of Jenna's wedding!!

In the studio with Jennifer Behr

Jen Behr in the studio The other week when we were in New York we had the privilege of spending several hours playing at the brilliantly talented Jennifer Behr's Fort Green studio. Jen is working on a headpiece for Eunice's upcoming wedding, and we probably spent about 3 hours trying on all manner of be-jeweled, be-feathered, be-ribboned hair accessories. It was so much fun! Here's Jen trying a piece on Eunice...

Eunice in feathers

One of Jen's more over-the-top headpieces (she regularly makes one-of-a-kind pieces for Vogue, W, etc.)

Mannequin and headbands

Beautiful baubles were everywhere...

Rope headbands

Her flat files are full of different pieces, like these beautiful rope creations...

Fabric flowers

New Joel Dewberry & EIEIO designs!

Sparrows After months of anticipation, the new Joel Dewberry and EIEIO designs are available for purchase on our website! The Sparrows wedding invitation design, above, based on Joel's Aviary collection is one of our favorites.

Aviary Tote Bag

Joel's gorgeous fabrics can be found in all kinds of applications like this gorgeous tote bag from Ivan & Mary that we spotted on Style Me Pretty last fall. You can also buy his fabric by the yard here that you can use for crafting projects (think bridesmaid purses, fabric-covered  headbands, welcome bags, and table runners!).

Shangri-La

Shangri-la (show above) is another favorite.

EIEIO Meadow

EIEIO's  modern designs are sleek and refreshing. Meadow (shown above) is so perfect for an outdoor wedding, we can barely stand it! The subtle lines look gorgeous letterpress printed.

Poppy Stripe

We're also loving Poppy Stripe in this red, gravel and pool colorway, inspired by many of EIEIO's beautiful paper designs (especially Flower Pop). Again, EIEIO's papers are perfect for crafting accessories -  napkin rings, wrapping favors, envelope liners, you name it!

All of the designs are available either letterpress or digitally printed; coordinating items such as menus, place cards, directions cards, programs, and thank you notes are available for order via phone/e-mail (contact us for more details). All colors can be customized, too!

Alex's baby shower

Elephant baby grow We got ready to welcome the latest Hello!Lucky baby into the world recently. The expectant mom: Alex, one of our stationery consultants! We threw a shower for her at our studio, the highlight of which was the fabulous hand-crafted items created by our staff! Here's an adorable elephant baby snapsuit by Haley.

Heart on butt

It even has a cute heart on the butt!

hat and booties

Shauna knitted Alex these adorable booties and hat.

Snail baby grow

And Jessica embroidered this cute baby tee with a snail (it says "snail" in German).

German Potato Salad

Since Alex is German, this was a definite theme. The highlight of the tasty treats was a delicious German Potato Salad by James, complete with its own authentic signage.

Stay tuned for updates as the latest Hello!Lucky baby arrives!

Monogram & cross stitch love!

Cute monograms Heather Lee over at Brides Chicago  just emailed us with this adorable story on monograms (for which we contributed a cute cross-stitched monogram!). We love the idea of getting creative with monograms and are especially fond of the love birds by Paper + Cup and the cool showposter style one by Pica Press.

For anyone who's curious - here's the full cross stitch invitation suite we originally designed when we heard about this monogram story:

Some of the models back stage. Vera Wang's gowns are available exclusively at Bridal Galleria in San Francisco.

We created the invitations for the event using the Chandelier design by EIEIO. Photography by Jade Studio Productions.

Jennifer Behr 2009 Spring Collection

Voilette headband We're completely in love with Jennifer Behr's Spring collection! We got to see it in person when we were in New York a couple weeks ago and we're telling you gals, it's gorgeous!

Encrusted crystal headband

This is one of our faves - gorgeous crystals on delicate chiffon - so pretty!

Knot headband

Love this structured knot!

Crystal wing

This little crystal wing clip is so cute! Sigh...long live the headband and bedazzled barrettes!  Shop for Jennifer's creations here.

Blanca Gomèz

We came across Blanca Gomèz, a designer and illustrator working in Madrid, on Rifle and Oh Joy and we just love her graphic and minimalist style - so sweet and with a touch of a retro vibe.  The words "cute!!" and "genius!!" (inclusive of double exclamation points) are bandied about our office a lot (perhaps a bit *too* much!) but we think they definitely apply in this case! Sailor

Hello!Lucky at Zac Posen

Zac Posen Invitation Last week we had the pleasure of attending Zac Posen's show at Fashion Week, for which we'd letterpress printed the invitations.  It was one of those can't-miss opportunities and our first time attending a runway show. It was pretty fabulous, we gotta say!

His collection was romantic and Victorian-inspired; the show was accompanied by the 5 Browns, playing Steinway grand pianos.
