Our London Hero

Petrova8

We've got to give a big "hip hip hooray!" to our UK General Manager Iain! He went above and beyond to hand deliver a day-of wedding piece to the bride & groom, one day before the wedding - now that's customer service! Forever and Ever Events gave a super sweet shout out to Iain - the US team couldn't be more proud!

Way to go Iain!

Lucky Friday # 24 Octo Sailor Birthday Card

Hello all you lucky folks out there! This is the twenty-fourth edition of our Lucky Friday Giveaway! Each Friday we feature one of our letterpress cards. We’ll choose THREE LUCKY WINNERS to get a free card.  Post a comment by 12 p.m. PST the following Thursday, and we’ll announce the winners on the following Friday!

The three winners from last week are (drum roll, please):

Whitney, Emily and Zoë!

We’ll contact you early next week to arrange sending your Dinosaurs card.

Now for this week’s edition:

Octo_sailors

Design: Octo Sailors

Artist: Eunice Moyle

Inspiration: A bit of Busby Berkeley birthday stylishly swirly and smiley sailor shenanigans.

Who to send it to: A beloved Octogenarian or perhaps a favored seafarer with a taste for tako.

Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: “Here’s lookin’ at you, Squid” with a giant squid’s giant fish-eye was too creepy.

Favorite detail: The overall effect of the pinwheel pattern of poly-podes is pretty octo-riffic.

Why letterpress: Octopi (or octopodes, if you prefer), like pressmen, can do a lot with a little squirt of ink.

Don’t forget to post your comment, and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!

Weekend in Paris: Part 2

Jardin du Luxembourg carousel

Our weekend in Paris, continued! We spent our second day exploring Jardin du Luxembourg.

Jardin du Luxemboug Carousel

It's the ideal place for kids and home this lovely 1879 vintage carousel designed by Charles Garnier (of Paris Opera fame).

Jardin des Enfants

We started at the Jardin des Enfants, where the little ones roamed the lawns...

Jardin des Enfants 2

... and splashed in the wading pools.

Jardin du Luxembourg Kiosk Menu

Next were yummy crepes from the kiosk by the carousel.

Jardin du Luxemboug Kiosk from carousel

We admired the kiosk's design...

...the sweet sign...

Jardin du Luxeumbourg kioks awning

...the striped awning...

Jardin du Luxemboug Tennis Courts in Rain

...and a cozy interior seating area overlooking tennis courts, in case you get caught in a torrential downpour (which we did!).

Jardin du Luxemboug Art Gallery

We sheltered from the rain in the art gallery!

My only regret is that we didn't have time to rent the vintage toy sailboats! La prochaine fois!

Lucky Goat Family Farms

IMG_2320

Over 4th of July weekend (um, yes, it took me awhile to get around to this post!), I attended a really lovely cheese making workshop at Lucky Goat Family Farm in Big Sur.  Milking a goat, was somewhat intimidating at first, but in the end, and after some man-handling that this particular goat was very patient about, pretty fun!

goats

And the baby goats are le cute!

IMG_2350

Turns out that super delicious goat cheese is actually not terribly difficult to make (or so it seemed under the capable direction of Sequoia Chappellet and her mom, our instructors. Of course, they've been making cheese for 27 years, so I'm not sure if I'd get the same results in my own kitchen!)

fireworks

We decorated our cheese with edible flowers picked from their garden.  Mine was a little nod to Fourth of July with a fireworks motif!

cheeseplatae

The work of our various artistes!  Who knew that cheese decorating could be so creatively fulfilling?

lunch

The workshop ended with a cheese tasting that was SO delicious - it doesn't really get much better than goat cheese paired with fresh baked bread from Big Sur Bakery (which is, by the way, not to be missed if you ever find yourself down that way), a delicious wine from the family winery and other delicacies!

IMG_2362

Note to brides out there looking for a really lovely rustic venue:

Lucky Goat Family Farm is available for wedding rentals (they have a beautiful artist's loft that opens out onto a perfect spot for an outdoor celebration) and there are several houses available as vacation rentals on the property that would be a great place for friends and family to stay!  Alas, I did a terrible job of getting any photos of the space but trust me, it's lovely and well worth a look!

Visit to Kansas City!

Weekend in Paris: Part 1

Taxidermy Musee de la Chasse

After two weeks visiting our London office, I nipped away with my family to Paris for the weekend. Paris with two 16 month-olds felt a little daunting at first, but everything turned out beautifully (with the exception of a couple delicious meals that arrived too slowly for a toddler's taste, so were hastily wolfed down!).

Polar Bear Musee de la Chasse

First stop: La Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature. My husband, J., was skeptical given my known obsession with taxidermy, but it proved to be creative, gorgeous, and amusing!

Flower market stall Paris

Strolling around the Marais, we spotted gorgeous fresh flowers from a street vendor...

Cute outfit Paris

Tout a Loisirs Beads Paris

IE Paris Marais

ie boutique - colorful Indo-European children's clothes and decor created by a Japanese stylist and a French-Nepalese architect.

Boys on La Promenade,jpg

The best part was just to "faire une promenade" around the streets (and boutiques!) of Paris. The evening's dinner (sans petits) was at Le Train Bleu at Gare du Lyon - a gorgeous beaux-arts interior serving traditional French cuisine. A lovely start to the weekend!

Lucky Friday # 23, Julia Rothman's Dinosaurs Card for a BIG little Guy!

Hello all you lucky folks out there! This is the twenty-third edition of our Lucky Friday Giveaway!

Darilyn, Sherri N and Brenda Eden!

We’ll contact you early next week to arrange sending your Bundle of Joy card.

Now for this week’s edition:

dinosaurs

Design: Dinosaurs

Artist: Julia Rothman

Inspiration: Big ideas abound when there’s dinosaurs around!

Who to send it to: For a big birthday for a little guy, terrible lizards make for terrific cards.

Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one:  A surfer stegosaurus on a card that read “Cretaceous, Dude!” But we realized that was waaay bogus.

Favorite detail: The absence of T-Rex lets a little big guy fill in the big blank with a big roar!

Why letterpress: Dinos left some impressive fossilized prints behind— similarly, our ancient technology will withstand the test of time.

Don’t forget to post your comment, and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!

Kim and Chris chose our Mi Amor Save the Date - the bright colors are perfect for this summer event!

All the flowers were purchased from Trader Joe's and arranged by Kim's aunt. She also made Kim's headpiece - what a talented lady to have in the family!

Kim and Chris cut their Bristol Farms cake with a saber that belonged to Chris' grandfather. All of his kids and grandkids have used it at their weddings. The cake topper was the one Kim's grandparents used on their cake sixty years ago!

Now for this week’s edition:

bundle_of_joy

Design: Bundle of Joy

Artist: Anna Hurley

Inspiration: We don’t quite know how it happened—  something in the water, or a glimmer in the eye— it felt like the idea just fell out of the sky.

Who to send it to: A couple whose wish was granted—that the stork has landed.

Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: We had a version of the card with a weary looking stork carrying triplets, reading: “Stork Up and Save!”

Favorite detail: We like how the skyline could be most anywhere, but it has a mix of San Francisco urban and Scandinavian flair.

Why Letterpress? You’d be stork raving mad not to send or stock such striking stationery!

Don’t forget to post your comment, and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!

Real Wedding: Erin and Mark

100828_d1585

We've sent plenty of wedding stationery out into the world, but its such a treat when the photos come back to us and we get to see how it all comes together on the big day!  We just got a surprise delivery of these gorgeous snaps of Erin and Mark's wedding from Michelle Warren Photography for which we designed the initial invitations.

The couple's original wedding invitation was from our Naturalist suite.  The bird icon was carried over into their wedding program where they used torn fabric to bind the pages together.  The epitome of causal simplicity!

Design Notebook: a kitchen bridal shower!

photo

Sometimes the cutest cards start with the simplest of ideas.  Kendel was having a kitchen bridal shower and wanted to send out invites that were playful and fun along with recipe cards so her guests could share their favorite dishes.  We love the tiny faces on the bowl and spoon reminiscent of our Big Day rsvp cards and Type(face) thank you cards.

We also created custom artwork to be printed on aprons for the party.  Eunice did a few sketches, scanned in the best one, and got to work designing the most adorable illustration!
