NSS Round-Up

The National Stationery Show is one of our favorite times of the year. Like summer camp, our industry pals travel from all of the country and across the pond to showcase their latest and greatest. It's always so inspiring to see the works of other stationers. We love the diversity amongst style and relish in the creative energy flowing through The Javits. Getting to attend all the fabulous events that coincide with NSS week and meeting some of our most admired tastemakers is A DREAM. This year we were super honored to be a judge at the LOUIE Awards and a speaker at the blogging seminar.

We've gathered up some shots of our booth and a few favorites from around the show to share with you! Enjoy.

We were lucky enough to have Bramble Workshop help with our booth decor. She created custom handmade cacti out of paper mache to sit on our table and hang from our walls. The honeycombs are from the newly launched Oh Happy Day Party Shop and the confetti we printed with our Silhouette Cameo machine out of vinyl.

Sabrina goes to the White House!

Sabrina had the incredible experience of being a guest at the state dinner honoring Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on April 28th, where she was seated at the head table right across from Michelle Obama!  It was amazing to be recognized as a small business owner and advocate for both locally crafted products and global trade via her Share Trade campaign.   The following week, our partner Tess Darrow, founder of Egg Press, was featured on the White House blog and got a shout-out from President Obama, who called their stationery "real nice!"

Writing a hand-written thank you note, of course!

The menu and calligraphed escort card.

Write_On 2015!

Last April our friend Tess Darrow, founder of Egg Press, challenged us, our fans, and anyone who wanted in to write 30 letters in 30 days. Her motive was pure with its intention to reconnect people with the act of letter-writing. The campaign took on a life of its own with social media abuzz and thousands of letters flying out the door. We received more than double what we expected in sign-ups, an amazing response, and gave away 8,000 cards free of charge, all in hopes of promoting joy, creativity, expression and connection!

This year, Hello!Lucky and Egg Press will donate 5,000 kits to the cause (that's 20k cards)! We've also partnered with Sakura of America who has graciously donated 5k Gelly Roll pens, Paper Source who will be selling our Write_On exclusive super kit and dozens of boutiques nation-wide to distribute kits. You may also order a kit here on our newly launched Write_On website

We encourage you to take on the challenge and share your adventure through social media by tagging #write_on.

If you run out of steam, check out our Reasons to Write section for ideas!

Share Trade

A campaign for small business makers & conscious consumers.

Here at Hello!Lucky, we believe that, given a choice, people consume products that represent their ideals and values and reflect who they wish to be in the world: from being creative and resourceful to supporting local communities.

This is why our co-founder, Sabrina Moyle, created Share Trade, a campaign aimed at removing barriers to selling overseas for small makers, and improving the quality of life of people worldwide through embracing global trade, local manufacturing, and conscious consumption.

We believe in expanding the global availability of products and services that embody universal human ideals -- joy, creativity, beauty, functionality, quality, affordability...just to name a few.  These products and services, and their ideals, should be able to be exported freely and easily.  Also, we believe that people worldwide deserve to have a hand in making what they consume: locally designed and manufactured products are a way to preserve our authenticity and maintain diversity, transparency, and creativity worldwide.

Through sharing trade, local manufacturing, and conscious consumption, we believe everyone's quality of life -- material, intellectual, social, spiritual -- can improve, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, age, or economic circumstances

Find out more about Share Trade here and help us spread awareness by getting involved!

Sign the petition to support TPA & TPP, and remove barriers to export for small and medium sized businesses.

William's Second Birthday- Superhero Style

Sabrina's youngest, William, just turned 2 and they celebrated in style. The party was well stocked with snacks, crafts, and a photo backdrop all themed to his favorite playtime activity. Perched high above San Francisco, the Randall Museum was the perfect venue for a superhero soiree. Special thanks to Kara Brodgesell for capturing the day!

Line a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with aluminum foil, shiny-side up; smooth out any wrinkles. Heat 1 inch of water in a saucepan over low heat until steaming.

Put all but 3/4 cup of the semisweet chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Set the bowl over the saucepan of steaming water (do not let the bowl touch the water) and stir until one-third of the chocolate is melted. Remove the bowl from the saucepan; keep the steaming water over low heat. Gradually stir the reserved 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate into the bowl, a few pieces at a time, until all of the chocolate is melted. Return the bowl to the saucepan, 5 to 10 seconds at a time, to help melt the chocolate, if needed. Do not rush this step: It may take up to 10 minutes to melt the chocolate.

Wipe off any moisture from the bottom of the bowl. Stir 3/4 teaspoon peppermint extract into the chocolate, then quickly pour into the prepared baking dish and spread in an even layer. Firmly tap the dish against the counter to remove any air bubbles. Set aside at room temperature until almost set, about 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, put all but 1 cup of the white chocolate in a large heatproof bowl and repeat the melting process over the steaming water; dry off the bottom of the bowl. Stir in the remaining 3/4 teaspoon peppermint extract; pour over the semisweet chocolate and spread in an even layer. Sprinkle immediately with the crushed candy canes, gently pressing them into the white chocolate. Set aside at room temperature until firm, about 1 hour. Lift the bark out of the pan using the foil and break it into pieces. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Permanent Press Editions

We are thrilled to announce this exciting project founded by Shana Faust and Alexa Mulvihill.

Permanent Press Editions is a print shop offering archival-quality prints at an affordable price. The prints featuring inanimate objects can be purchased inside or outside the frame in singles or groupings.

They have managed to make each subject thoughtful when it could otherwise be interpreted as mundane. It's a blend of simplicity and nostalgia, and as perfectly described by them- “Each image is a portrait, a memory, a sensation—the smell of salt air, the magic of a glitter-infused comb, the endless possibilities housed in a box of colored pencils. “.

We love this concept, and the execution is flawless. We are putting Permanent Press Editions on our Christmas list, that's for sure!

Superhero Halloween

Halloween is one of our favorite Holidays at Hello!Lucky where we are all about embracing our inner-child. There’s really nothing better than getting to trot around the city dressed as a posse of Marvel characters and have it be 100% socially accepted.  Eunice and clan did just that in their costumes made custom for each family member by Eunice herself.

See the inspiration and the outcome below!
