New! Letterpress Holiday Cards

Way back in July we were busy printing our new letterpress holiday greeting cards and we're so excited to finally reveal them! Some of our most popular holiday cards have been from our visit series and we couldn't wait to add more cities to the collection this year. Happy Holidays from Texas, Washington, D.C, and Seattle are the newest members to the letterpress card family, and thanks to the Lab Partners for their dedication and expert design skills, we're certain they will be a hit.

Lab Partners Show at Super 7

Hey all you San Franciscans! If you're free tonight you should head over to Super 7 for a show by our friends the Lab Partners! They will be exhibiting a bunch of new prints like the ones shown here. We love supporting local artists so you bet we'll be there! The event, titled Next Stop: San Francisco starts at 6pm. Super 7 is located at 1427 Haight ST. See you there!

On Press: 2012 Trade Releases

This week Max is working hard and printing all of the upcoming trade releases for 2012. Along with Eunice's and Anna's fun and beautiful new designs,  we have an armful of great new cards from our friends and favorite designers: Esther Aarts,  Lab Partners, and Julia Rothman.

New from Lab Partners

Can you say "Me-ow?" This new collection of silkscreened prints by the Lab Partners is majorly tantalizing. The series (printed in the USA!) features the many natural wonders of California. The best part? 5% of all sales are donated to the California Nature Conservancy. We love that they are contributing to a good cause, and can definitely picture these sleek black/gold printed pieces making a statement at home or in the office. Check out the entire shop here!

Featuring Lab Partners and Giveaway!

We couldn't have more love and admiration for our featured designer Lab Partners! Sarah and Ryan are the husband and wife team behind the super successful design studio based in Piedmont, CA. Prior to establishing Lab Partners, Sarah was part of the Hello!Lucky team working as an illustrator and designer. It's no wonder we're obsessed with their designs! They are the geniuses who created our Visit Series and we cannot wait to continue working with them in the future. Check out their cards in the 2011 Holiday Collection here!

What inspired your design for the holiday collection?

The candy bowl filled with sweets we always have out during the holidays. We also are big fans of the Christmas stocking so we had to do one of those.

What are you currently working on?

Right now we're working on a couple of projects with Chronicle Books that we're super excited about. We're also working with the Seattle Children's hospital on a project with one of our favorite artists, Amy Ruppel. It's probably the largest endeavor we've ever taken on and it's been such a great challenge and amazing experience so far.

What influences your style the most?

Color, textiles, animals, science and animation.

What's your favorite holiday tradition?

Definitely the day we bring the tree home. We always cook a fancy meal and watch The Sound of Music while decorating the tree. It's a great way to kick off the season.

Best holiday memory?

Sarah: Driving around with my family to find the houses with the super crazy lights.

Ryan: Visiting Austria at Christmastime, everything was so picturesque.

Design: Trick or Treat Artist: Lab Partners Inspiration:  A tiny town teeming with teeny trick-or-treaters was just too tempting not to attempt. Who to send it to: a petite pirate, a diminutive Dracula, a wee werewolf, a smallish skeleton or an itty-bitty kitty. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: We thought the college version, with kids dressed as showers, laundry baskets and zombie sorority girls was a little too hard to communicate at that scale. Favorite Detail: Who could name just one? But we delight in saying that there really is a devil in the details.

Limited Edition Prints Featured on D*S

It was so exciting to see our new limited edition Woodland prints featured on Design*Sponge! We worked with some of our favorite artists, including Julia Rothman, Kate Sutton and Lab Partners, to create their own interpretations of the "Woodland" theme, and couldn't be more excited by the results! We even created one ourselves (above). Each print is 12" x 18" and is available for purchase here. Each one is printed in a limited quantity of 250, so when they are gone, they're gone!

It's that time of the year again!  We're heading to the National Stationery Show today, and super excited to catch up with all our favorite designers, friends, customers, bloggers, and editors again, and of course to be in one of our favorite cities!

2009 Preview Party!

We recently held our 2009 Stationery Preview party and are thrilled to report that it was a huge success!  We collaborated with some of the most amazing wedding vendors in the Bay Area to transform our working letterpress studio into a beautiful event space complete with red carpet!  Above, the fab Morgan Doan, event planner extraordinaire and mastermind behind this event, and Sabrina chatting by the welcome table.  Our sponsor booklet featured our new Sparrow design by Joel Dewberry.

Guests arriving...it was a fantastic crowd - some of the best and brightest in weddings...

The studio on its way to being transformed. Got Light? did an amazing job with the lighting and draping - we were truly blown away by the difference a little "pipe and drape" made.  The back-lit bar was provided by Blueprint Studio Collection and Wildflower Linens provided the lovely table clothes. DJ John Jow turned the place into a mini-nightclub with his expert music mixing.

Jane Hammond Events provided the seriously delicious hors d'oeuvres, including bite-sized crab cakes, empinadas, and mushroom tartlets and the most amazing brownies of all time.  Andronico's Market provided the excellent wine (selected by the talented Jeffrey Porter).

We made these little buffet signs - the holder was just a standard restaurant sign holder that we spray-painted a matte pink and the orchid pattern on the sign is from one of our new collaborations with Joel Dewberry.

One of the things we were celebrating was the launch of our latest invitation collections including a collaborations with EIEIO, Joel Dewberry, Julia Rothman, and the always amazing Lab Partners.  They did a destination series featuring New York, San Francisco, Hawaii and London (London and New York pictured above).  We've already gotten such and incredible response, we're already thinking about adding some new destinations to the line!

Sharla Flock designed the gorgeous floral arrangments - we love her subtle use of color and texture.

She used pieces from our large collection of flea market found vases and bowls to create an eclectic look.

One of our talented printers, James, did demonstrations of the letterpress printing technique.

We were also celebrating the launch of our new website which we are SO excited about.  The dapper Mr. Daniel James of Three Rings and brilliant event planner, Lisa Feldman, check out the new look.

We had a whole selection of our work on display - this was a variation on our popular Cherry Blossom design - including fan programs, and round menus designed to fit into the dinner plates.  We were also introducing our new digital printing option - an excellent (and fast!) alternative to letterpress (or a budget-friendly way to augment beautiful letterpress invitations).

Hello!Lucky at the National Stationery Show

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello at the National Stationery Show last week! Our muppet-green booth consisted of sewn fabric panels and handmade fabric birds and oilcloth clouds -- all created in the spirit of our forthcoming craft book, Handmade Hellos, coming this Fall from Chronicle Books.

We also debuted a bunch of new card designs - some our faves are shown above. Perhaps our most favorite is the "Stinky Skunk" apologies card, which depicts delicate hand-rendered plumes of odor billowing from Mr. Skunk's demure tail (the pose and the predilection for creating smells are both inspired by Eunice's dog, Simon!).

It was painfully early to be thinking about Christmas, but yet there we were, displaying our full line of Holiday 2008 cards and wrap! Ho ho ho! We especially love these two, created for us by the wonderful duo of Sarah and Ryan at Lab Partners. The lovely and talented Julia Rothman also held court in our booth where she was greeting by legions of adoring fans! (ha ha!) The Silverware thank you notes from her card & wrap collection are currently being sold in Anthropologie stores nationwide.
