Design: Très Chic Artist: Julia Rothman Inspiration: We'd been clutching onto some old ideas, but we just had to buckle down, strap in, compartmentalize and get a handle on it. Who to send it to: Someone suave as suede, luxurious as spanish leather, and very well put together. Or, maybe just someone who has a lot of baggage. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: The "Old Pairs of Jeans" card wasn't too flattering, and the bomber jackets and cargo pants cards didn't have the same je ne sais quoi. Favorite detail: Ooh, definitely the subtle spring green patterns. Why letterpress? Did I hear someone say "leatherpress?"

Who to send it to: Someone who is Indie or die, who makes wardrobe and facial hair decisions based on "what he can get away with," or who's so new and fresh she hasn't even been born yet. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: We had a birthday card that was so unimaginably funny—the joke was so raw and wrong and real and right-on that we didn't get it. Favorite detail: Sweet how you can see the dude's hand through the green glass of his micro-brew. Why letterpress? Why? Really, sister, stay with us here. Need we explain why the sky is blue like an orange?

Design: Thanks a Brunch Artist: Eunice Moyle Inspiration: We had a short stack of ideas— we didn't want the design to be over-easy or too syrupy sweet, so the smorgasbord result suited us to a tea! Who to send it to: A friend who's a fiend with a French press, who's bringin' and makin' the bacon, and who's got a sure cure for what ails you in the A.M. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: The "Toastest with the Mostest," "Eggs-cellent Job," and "You Take the Pancake!" cards were all wrapped up, thankfully, in one big brunch bonanza. Favorite detail: Took us a sec to figure why the toast is wearing a beret. Guess we might need a spot of that coffee. Why letterpress? Good grapes, can't get over that gorgeous purple overprinting!

Who to send it to: A puppet with pertussis, a monkey with the mumps, an ailing ape, or any peaked post-primate. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: The "Monkey-zuma's Revenge" card was a little too evocative. Favorite detail: The sad little slouch tugs on our sympathy strings. Why letterpress? A mostly immobilized person particularly appreciates a picture with a little palpable punch— the perfect pick-me-up.

Design: I Melt for You Artist: Eunice Moyle Inspiration: Many of us melt at the mere mention of lolling in Dolores Park with a cone of Bi-Rite's Salted Caramel. (SF folks— you know.) Who to send it to: The cream in your coffee, the sugar on your cone, the cherry on top— or the coolest, sweetest, yummiest one of all. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: The chocolate bar idea was a mess, and the M&Ms were prudishly impervious to our warmth and charm. Favorite detail: Love the icy & caramel hues and the sunset shadows of cool and warm colors overlapping. Why letterpress? Smooth, rich paper and sweet color combos— the cream always rises to the top.

Design: Go Wild Artist: Julia Rothman Inspiration: We were wool-gathering for a while, and though the idea was a little fuzzy at first, we eventually found it had teeth. Who to send it to: Someone's who's packin' pachyderm, who's a giraffe-and-a-half or who's the ostrich with the mostrich. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: "Let's Get Domestic" was a cute design, but we didn't feel like it was going anywhere. Favorite Detail: Why, all the animals have de-tails, so how can we choose our favorite of de-tails? Why letterpress? Animals all make such interesting prints, we figured we'd use a heavyweight press method for all our animal champs.

Who to send it to: A friend who's movin' on up, movin' on out and taking the high road. Ideas we scrapped: The original text went, "If you have a lot of baggage make sure, at least, that it's old and beautiful." Favorite detail: Adore the color combination— perfect for spring travel and new beginnings! Why letterpress? Old suitcases and typecases have much in common—they hold a lot more than you think, and both can easily become heavy as lead.

Design: Love You Bunches Artist: Eunice Moyle Inspiration: We were dazzled by daisies and overcome by the rich colors of the cosmos. Who to send it to: If you don't know this one, then Mum's the word. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: The forget-me-not card was unfortunately fairly forgettable, the bouquet was just OK, and the pushing up daisies birthday card made us want to crocus. (ergh, so does that "joke-us".) Favorite detail: The striking gold sheen of the yellow and pink ribbon. Why letterpress? The depth with the overlapping color is subtle and sweet as baby's breath.

Didn't have the same... je ne sais quoi. Favorite detail: Just noticed the tip of the elephant's trunk is heart-shaped. Why letterpress? Elephants, like letterpress, make a strong impression.

Favorite detail: Love how the toadstools and ladybugs shop at the same itty bitty boutique. Why letterpress? Letterpress packs the most loveliness per inch!

Favorite detail: Love the translucent sheen on the bear's balloons. Why letterpress? Like letterpress, an elephant, strongman and bear all make a bold impression.

Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: The chipmunk version's cheeks were a little unflattering, the mouse version was a little mousy, the vole was too vole-uptuous and the mole was, well, you know. Design: Spring Chicken Artist: Eunice Moyle Inspiration: We trimmed our quills and made a lot of chicken scratch before we hatched this one. Who to send it to: Even though Punxsutawney Phil disagreed yesterday— send it to the wise bird who knows spring is just around the corner, and that we're all in the full bloom of our youth. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: Another poultry card featuring a turkey— "Wattle I Do Without You?"— we agreed was little too wistful and weird. And the "I'm Too Chicken to Say I Love You," was a bit too heavy to get off the ground. Favorite detail: Chickens always look surprised, don't they? Why letterpress? All the better for the fine feathers and flourishes.

And air-conditioners are simply not romantic. Favorite detail: The little bit of lift in the hearts gives our hearts a big lift. Why letterpress? For vintage fans, only vintage presses will do.

Design: We Belong Artist: Eunice Moyle Inspiration: Our salty tongues pepper our design dialogue with pithy one-liners, and somehow the perfect balance of savor and spice emerged. Who to send it to: Your better half, your perfect match or perfect opposite. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: The alternate text for the card read: "Come in for two shakes and I'll show you what I keep in my cellar." Favorite detail: The simplicity, really. Sweet and simple. Or salty, rather. Why Letterpress? The subtle and simple design calls for the restraint of a limited palette.
