Stationery Show Favorites, Part 1

We're having a great time at the NSS this week. It's impossible to get photos of everything we've seen and loved. But here's our first post to share some of the goodness we've been staring at all week.

HAMMERPRESS  - We've long been fans of this Kansas City press shop and we love that our booth is directly across from there's at this years show. They've got some great new designs. Including some sweet die cut holiday cards.

YELLOW OWL WORKSHOP - Just around the corner from our booth is one of our hometown neighbors and friends, Yellow Owl Workshop. We were so impressed during set up to see Christine painting a masterpiece in her booth - check out these lovely walls! As you can imagine their booth is definitely a stand out and we love how the cards match her amazing walls.

EGG PRESS - Another stand out booth is the this homemade beauty from Portland based Egg Press. Check out their custom built walls. Some great new designs from another one of our favorite letterpress companies -- and we're not just saying that in light of our big news.

9th LETTER PRESS - Another close neighbor to us at the show is 9th Letterpress, based out of Winter Park, Florida. They've got some lovely new designs and we're also liking their big spacious booth with simple wood shelves. We love the infusion of bright cheery colors in their designs as well.

Alright! We're off to the show for another day. Check back for more of our favorites which we should have up here soon!

National Stationery Show here we come!

We’re packing our bags and getting ready to head to New York once again for the National Stationery Show. We’re super excited to catch up with old friends, favorite designers, customers, editors, and everyone else we’ll see in NY. This new release is one of our biggest yet and we can't wait to unveil it to the world. Fingers crossed everyone else will like it as much as we do! We’ll be sure to take lots of photos and share all the goodness we see at NSS with you here on the blog.

If you'll be at the show please come by and say hello, we'd love to see you!

Booths We've Loved at the NSS

This week we were featured on the National Stationery Show's industry blog. We shared what we thought made a show-stopping booth and gave some examples of booths we've loved at shows past.

We're all about keeping booth designs clean and simple and think a little can go a long way. This year we'll be going with white walls and some big and bold neon decals taken from some of our favorite new card designs.

We love these booths from previous shows; at top Hannah Berman of Pie Bird Press looking adorable in her simple booth with colorful bunting, next Snow & Graham's stunning wall of paper flowers at the 2012 show, and finally, a wonderfully rustic booth from Grey Cardigan at last years show, we could live in this well designed booth!

To read the entire post head to the National Stationery site here. And if you'll be attending this year's show be sure to visit us at booth #1759!

The Best of NSS, Part 2

Hey peeps! It's time for more goodies from this years National Stationery Show (click here to see Part 1). First up is the amazing work from 1 Canoe 2 (above and below): 3 talented girls who draw, design and letterpress print in a barn in Missouri. Living the dream.

Making their NSS debut this year was Los Angeles based The Social Type (below). I love how the same sentiment can be interpreted in many different ways!

Another favorite of mine was Banquet Atelier & Workshop, based in Vancouver. Our mutual love of neon was obvious:

How incredible is their guest sign (below)? I'm loving their prints also.

My favorite birthday card of the show came from Anemone Letterpress (below). So clever!

Stay tuned for part 3!

The Best of NSS, Part 1

This year we didn't have a booth at the National Stationery Show but our New York satellite office (aka Design Director Shauna Leytus) was there visiting some of our favorite artists and making new friends. She'll be doing a series of posts recapping what she saw and loved. Here's her first post!

Where do I begin?! There was so much amazing work at the National Stationery Show this year from new comers and old favorites. Making her NSS debut, Left Field cards (above) showcased nine letterpressed "baseball cards" complete with mustaches, edibles and bizarre injuries. Collect them all!

One of my favorite cards of the entire show belonged to Red Camper (above and below). Need I say more?

A fellow card maker sharing a love of food-themed imagery was Fox Tail Press (above and below). When I asked when "national spaghetti day" actually was, Danielle rightly answered "everyday". Duh.

Design*Sponge declared Linda & Harriet's over-sized Quilt Calender the best thing she saw at the show and I couldn't agree more. My photos do not do it justice - this is a work of art and it is amazing.

More coverage of the show to come!

Some amazing people stopped by our booth to visit, but our favorite visitor was Eunice's son Jude - he really put the rest of us to shame with his amazing sales skills!

Hello Lucky's newest salesperson

Kate Spade at Bed Bath and Beyond!

As you may have gathered by now, we are big fans of Kate Spade. So we were super thrilled to hear that Bed Bath and Beyond is featuring a new line of bedding by Kate Spade.  Picked up on it first on Family Style and we had to share.

Just love the tangy colors! Images courtesy Bed Bath and Beyond— be sure to have a look on their site as the colors are actually a little more vivid than you see here.

Or if you're more into graphic minimal, these stripes might suit splendidly.

Ooh, and these cheerful heirloom roses would surely keep a bedroom sunny! Love!

Enjoy perusing, here.

Lucky Friday #13 (Thank You Card Giveaway!)

Yes, that's right! This just happens to be the thirteenth edition of Lucky Friday, coincidentally falling on Lucky Friday the 13th! Maybe we should have featured a Halloween Card? Spooky...

Each Friday we feature one of our letterpress cards. Then we’ll choose THREE LUCKY WINNERS to get a free card.  Post a comment by 12 p.m. PST the following Thursday, and we’ll announce the winners on the following Friday!

The three winners from last week are (drum roll, please):

Ann, Stephie and Paige L!

We'll contact you early next week to arrange sending your Wiser card.

Now for this week’s edition, one of our letterpress thank you cards:

sock_monkey_knitting

Artist: Eunice Moyle
Inspiration: Not a monkey's uncle— rather perhaps, a monkey's sweet, coy great aunt? Who to send it to: A silly little monkey who shouldn't have, or a nifty knitter who's a great gifter.
Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: It used to say "You Wild, Wooly Monkey!" but we thought it was too open to misinterpretation. And we toyed with the idea of a crocodile crocheting a stuffed crocodile, titled "This is a Real Croc of Knit" but we couldn't think of a soul to we'd be crazy enough to send it to. "All You Needle is Love" also made its way into file thirteen.
Our favorite detail: We wonder if the sock monkey knits sock humans?
Why letterpress? A well-spun yarn in a handwritten thank you letter yearns to be expressed on a letterpress card.
Don't forget to post your comment and check back next week to see if you've won!
Also, remember to drop by and see us at the National Stationery Show if you're in New York.

National Stationery Show: Our friends & neighbors

IMG_5455 At this years National Stationery Show, we were honored and excited to participate in a booth community with three of our favorite designers - Egg Press, Hammerpress and EIEIO. Besides the camaraderie, treats and gossip, their work was incredibly inspiring! We especially loved the bus thank you card (above), gift wrap and calender (below) from Egg Press.

IMG_5457

Fellow letterpress printers Hammerpress had some fantastic new journals, calenders and cards:

The National Stationery Show was a whirlwind of new and old friends, fellow designers, bloggers and buyers from our favorite stores around the country, not to mention some incredible paper products! There was so much inspiring work from new designers and those who have been in the business for years. For our own booth, we were thrilled to introduce our new designs from Julia Rothman (above), Esther Aarts and yours truly.

NSS: Weird, wonderful wedding cards!

Naoshi "Edgy" and "wedding congratulations card" are two phrases we almost never utter in the same breath, so we were delighted -- and not surprised -- that Carrie and Hal of Red Cap Cards managed to pull off this combo with new collaborations with artists Naoshi (bizarre strawberry couple/cake, above!)...

Jaime Zollars Wedding Card

...and this wonderful fairy tale-inspired illustration by Jaime Zollars. Snap these up for your next engaged, quirky girlfriend!

Bridesmaids Thanks For Your Support

And brides, thank your bridesmaids with this ladies' undergarment card by Julia Rothman, featuring bloomers, knickers, and bullet bras!

Stationery Show: Lights, Camera...

Yellow Owl Workshop Camera We're here at the New York Stationery Show and, as always, are jazzed and inspired by all the mad talent here! While lugging our camera to capture our highlights for the blog, we spotted these fab tributes to decades-gone-by photographic equipment - like this beautiful cast of a 1970's Polaroid camera by Yellow Owl Workshop. (Yes, it is for sale!)

Pie Bird Press Camera

And this darling 1960's Savoy camera, letterpress printed by Pie Bird Press.

Stay tuned for the "Action!" part of our coverage! (ha ha) We're just getting warmed up...

National Stationery Show, here we come!

Visit NYC - National Stationery Show It's that time of the year again!  We're heading to the National Stationery Show today, and super excited to catch up with all our favorite designers, friends, customers, bloggers, and editors again, and of course to be in one of our favorite cities!

Please feel free to stop by!

National Stationery Show - Yes!

EIEIO At the Stationery Show, we're always blown away by the talent and originality of a few designers - their work is museum-worthy, in our opinion! Jean of EIEIO is one of those people, and was debuting a fabulous new collection of gift boxes (available mid-August) and beautifully packaged patterned cards.

EIEIOEIEIO

In the same booth were the equally ingenious pop-up place mats of Lian Ang of Publique Living and hip stencils by Ed Roth of Stencil One.

Pancake & Franks Pancake & Franks

Stacy Pancake of Pancake & Franks' minimalist designs always inspire us - they're fresh, witty and eco-friendly. She had over 40 new designs at the show - each one was brilliant!

Paper + CupPaper + Cup

We always have fun catching up with Minhee Park at Paper + Cup - her "Les Animals" collection of colorful cards and journals are still some of our all-time favorites!

National Stationery Show - Yay!

Two Trick PonyTwo Trick Pony Some of the designers at the show just have a fabulous spirit: what they create is stunning, and also so much fun! One of our faves is Two Trick Pony. Laurie and Carrie's designs are witty, colorful, and eco-fabulous - all their cards are silk-screened by hand on 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper.

DelphineDelphine

Erica, the effervescent creator of Delphine Press, was showing her lovely collection of witty yet sophisticated cards and ephemera. We especially love her Squirrel and Rockhopper designs!

Red Cap CardsRed Cap Cards

We always enjoy entering the bizarre and wonderful universe created by Carrie and Hal of Redcap Cards. Carrie's Edward Gorey-esque illustrations and characters are funny, twisted, witty, and completely off-the-wall!
