Save Your Date + Sneak Peek!

It's true the holidays are the most popular times of year for new engagements, earning the title "engagement season." We're all for the one-knee wonder, and thus are unofficially declaring February as "Save the Date Season." Our busy brides-to-be are booking venues, putting final touches on their guest lists, and coordinating their colors with the bridesmaids. The save the date is the first piece of information guests will receive so it's a great way to make a lasting impression. Our save the date cards range from formal to funky, classic to casual and lots of in-betweens.

Year after year we see a rise and fall of our most popular designs, but here are a few that top the charts most frequently.

What would a new year be without new designs?? Our brand new wedding suites are coming soon, but here's a sneak peek of the save the date cards to get you ready!

To see all of our save the dates, visit our website here! And stay tuned on the blog for the big launch of our new designs coming very soon!

Parisian Wedding: Virginie and Antoine

There is a good reason why the word ‘Chic’ cannot be adequately translated into English; we simply just don’t do it as well as the French! Virgine and Antoine both live in London and wanted to take some of the elements of their life here to their May wedding in Paris, mainly in the form of a black London taxi!  We just love the way the photographer has managed to capture the mix of the formal and informal in these stunning photos of the happy couple who seem to have the whole city to themselves!

The reception was a little out of the city at the Manoir de Gressy where the more rural setting provided a beautiful contrast to the city and where Virginie chose an elegant restricted palette of cool greys and silver with just white flowers and green foliage in simple domed bunches. For their stationery they chose to have a customized version of our London Skyline, which we adapted to have the Paris skyline alongside.

We produced the table signs showing either London Tube stations or Paris Metro stops and Virginie also designed a wonderful 32 page booklet herself with graphic images of the two different cultures - The Gherkin vs. Tour Eiffel, Pimms vs. Ricard, Macaron vs. Cupcake etc.!

A customized photo booth with the somewhat Banksy-esque gun-toting Queen along with a host of props allowed the guests to create some memorable photographs of the big day.

Nous remercions Virginie et Antoine d'avoir partage ses photo avec nous. Nous tenons a leur souhaiter beaucoupde bohneur pour leur futur.

Photography by Rikki Ward

You may remember Rikki Ward from her lovely photographs of our SF Made studio event in May. We were so impressed with her work we couldn't wait to share more. She has a knack for capturing the spirit of a couple on their wedding day, and is a true delight to work with. As a neighbor in San Francisco, she has the luxury of getting to travel to beautiful places and spaces for work. Her images covers all bases, from rustic outdoor events to traditional and modern weddings. We grabbed a few of our favorite shots, just to give you a peek at her incredible talent. Be sure to visit her  brand new website for more!

Thanks again Rikki for the fun photos of our SF Made event! Can't wait to see what you create next!

Blog Giveaway: The Story of Us

We're happy to be the second stop on the Chronicle Books blog tour for the lovely new keepsake journal The Story of Us. This journal, created by Tacori and Chronicle, is a sweet way to remember all of the special moments in your relationship, from the first date to the honeymoon. For our stop on the tour Eunice and Sabrina tell their engagement stories-- both equally sweet yet full of quirky mishaps.

Eunice's Engagement Story:

Our engagement story had, well, a few bumps. Daniel had planned to propose during a trip to Paris. Given how much I love France, he knew it would be the perfect venue. Unfortunately for him, just before the trip to Europe we attended a big weekend festival in Austin. In the midst of the festival, I suddenly became quite cranky. At first, I blamed the heat and the camping, but pretty soon I was really irritable and after a day or two I was fuming (for no apparent reason) and had transformed from the funny, uber-reasonable girl he knew and loved into what can only be described as a total harpie. So much so that Daniel actually consulted with his best friend Tom (luckily a good friend of mine as well) as to whether asking me to marry him might be a huge mistake - luckily, Tom reminded him of all my more charming attributes.
When we got back to San Francisco I noticed strange blistery bumps all over my torso, and soon discovered that in fact I had a raging case of chicken pox. Apparently, one of the first symptoms of chicken pox is out-of-control unreasonable irritability - needless to say, Daniel was hugely relieved that I had not simply transformed into a terrible monster overnight. Unfortunately, because I was incredibly contagious, and was banned from flying, our trip was canceled.
Daniel ended up proposing 6 months later at sunset at the top of Buena Vista Park where we were playing with our dogs, Indy and Simon, just after I had caught a muddy and slobbery ball, with his mother's antique pink diamond Cartier ring. In the end, it was the perfect proposal - he caught me totally off guard and it was all the more sweet for being a complete surprise.

Sabrina's Engagement Story:

My husband is from England and both of our birthdays are around New Years. We had booked a lovely old town house in Hampton Court where we were going to spend the holiday; we arrived on my birthday and his friends were all arriving the following day. They all knew he was planning to propose, so he was locked in! When we arrived, it was dark, cold and rainy (despite being 3 in the afternoon - that's England in the winter for you!). Hampton Court is famous for its gardens, designed by Christopher Wren and overlooking the Thames river.
Plan A was to propose to me in the gardens. He asked if I wanted to go for a walk. I thought he was crazy given it was pitch black and drizzling, but I went along. We walked out there in the cold and damp only to discover there were no outdoor lights. We stumbled around and got a brief glimpse of the Thames before heading back to the house.
Plan B was dinner at a restaurant with romantic view of Tower Bridge that Julian remembered as being swanky from his days in London. We walked in to the dulcet tones of a bar pianist singing "Close to you" by the Carpenters, which should have been a sign that things weren't going to end well. Julian had tipped off the Maitre D' before hand about his plans, asking for a special table by the window, but the guy had forgotten and seated us in the bar next to the pianist, who continued to bang out easy listening numbers throughout the evening.
Plan C was to propose in front of a romantic fire at Hampton Court. We got home from our dinner, and he set about making a fire with some extremely damp firewood. After several failed attempts, he finally gave up and just got down on one knee and proposed. I was completely surprised and baffled, and said yes!

In the bag!

We are loving these oh-so-chic messenger bags from Ulster Weavers that we found whilst looking for tea-towels for the London office. Having images of London, New York and Paris, they coordinate rather well with our own invitations and we can think of no better way of keeping all ones' wedding paraphernalia together than in one of these beauties! Of course, for all those readers in a non-wedding frame of mind, they are equally good for popping to the supermarket whilst retaining ones' street cred! We are also rather taken by some of their aprons in wonderful retro designs; perfect for releasing your inner Doris Day for a spot of afternoon cake baking!

The couple's original wedding invitation was from our Naturalist suite.  The bird icon was carried over into their wedding program where they used torn fabric to bind the pages together.  The epitome of causal simplicity!

Cute Origami Favor Boxes

imgp9216_2

How cute are these little origami boxes?  We found them over on Les Surprises de Fifi Mandirac (these are her super adorable papers - love the mixed patterns). She found this on K.Design, a lovely blog with all kinds of cute origami ideas...

imgp9223_21

They would make adorable favor boxes and they look pretty easy to make!  You can find the instructions here (they are very clear, but in French, so a quick translation follows, should you need it!)

Row 1: I used a piece of square origami paper (12  x 12 cm or 15 x 15 cm)

Row 2:  Fold along dotted lines

Row 3: Unfold the left and right sides

Row 4: Raise the left side; bring the flap down and inside

Row 5: Repeat on the right side

Conseil:  Tip: to make a cover, use a slightly larger piece of paper
