Designer Wedding Show 10 - 12 October Battersea Park, London
French Deco is one of our favorite wedding invitation designs. Inspired by a vintage French perfume label, it reminds us of the Great Gatsby and a sparkling '20's charm and elegance. We think that the invitation really sets the tone for any event (ok, so perhaps we're a little biased, but still!), and love the idea of drawing inspiration from the invitations for all kinds of event details. So when we came across this cake designed by the talented Shinmin of I Dream of Cake for one of our brides, we couldn't help but emit a little yip of pleasure! We're sure it was as delicious as it is stylish.

As everyone knows, we're big fans of DIY crafts so were excited to see these cute DIY thank you card projects on Martha Stewart (from the Fall issue of Weddings).
Most projects come with how-to instructions or templates. While some are a little hard to imagine doing in multiple (hand-cutting 100 intricate paper cutouts with an exacto blade, anyone?), others like this birdie card (which basically just entails xeroxing clipart and embellishing with a little 3-D missive) are simple and sweet.
Remember doing linoleum block prints in grade school? It's simple and great for multiples. Happy crafting!
We were thrilled to receive photos from friend and collaborator Julia's recent wedding, beautifully shot by Jennifer Causey. Julia and Mathew were married at The Oaks on Long Island, a beautiful estate on the water.
The classic green and white color scheme was carried throughout. We love that Julia bucked tradition and had her bridesmaids select their own dresses in various shades of green.
The wedding was full of handcrafted details featuring Julia's illustrations, of course!
Julia herself looked radiantly happy in a dress from David's Bridal and a hairpiece from ban.do.
Congratulations to Julia and Mathew! It looked like an amazing evening.
Sophie Cuvelier is a fabulous french artist we came across via frolic, who creates amazing garlands out of hand-dyed paper, feathers, and bits. We love the colors, the whimsy and imperfect charm. Adorable to hang in a playroom and how amazing would these look strung up in great quantities at a wedding? We are très inspired!
The name really says it all; if "Fourteen People, Some Ink and a Handful of Vintage Presses" wasn't such a mouthful we may be tempted to take a leaf from their book! We learned of these two talented floral artists from a client who staged her wedding in the sculpture galley at Woburn Abbey and who subsequently sang their praises. Their service both on and in the run-up to the day were exemplary and a look at their website indeed bears testament to he beautiful work that they produce.
The way they coordinated the flowers with delicate cake design taken from antique engravings is just sheer genius!
The beautiful hand-tied bouquet of roses and peonies in soft pastel tones would be the perfect choice for a bride wanting a classic, traditional look but the girls are equally competent at creating understated, modern elegance as seen in the striking bouquet of green Calla lilies or gorgeous orchid buttonhole(below).

Thanks to Audrey of Urbanic Paper Boutique for sharing these adorable photos of her friends' wedding. The couple coordinated their invitations with Audrey and chose our Classic Cowboy letterpress wedding invitation. We love this invitation (no bias here, of course) and were especially pleased with the eye catching color palette they settled on.
The invitation, in pool and lucky red inks, makes such a refreshingly cheery and bold statement for what is sure to be a festive day.
The crisp color palette was evident in the the rest of the the thoughtfully planned details on the wedding day. The cool blue of the Pacific Ocean provides such a lovely backdrop for the ceremony though we have to say that the popcorn bag seating cards take the cake!

Thanks to Jeannie Savage of Details Details Wedding and Event Planning and Ira Lippke Studios for sharing these stunning photos of Sandy and Harry's wedding this past August in Laguna Beach. Sandy selected our Cherry Blossom design for her save the date cards and wedding invitations opting for bold and vibrant colors and modern typsestyles.
The creative juices really started flowing when it came to the day of stationery. When Jeannie wondered if the seating cards could be in the exact shape of the blossoms on the invitations, our answer was an enthusiastic yes!
Diecut blossoms on colorful cardstock were artfully arranged on branches and featured calligraphy by Michele Papineau of Papineau Calligraphy.
Round menus fit perfectly into chargers and scallop labels reading "love sweet love" adorned take home candy bags. Sandy and Harry also provided their guests with to-go boxes of comfort food liked grilled cheese sandwiches and burgers to satisfy their late night cravings. A much appreciated touch, we're sure!
Love the elegantly simple cake punctuated with blossoms and bands of bright green and dramatically lit lounge area at the reception.
Such a beautiful wedding with so many thoughtful touches (cue gorgeous sunset!)...

Thanks to Ritzy Bee for bringing our attention to these gorgeous photos of Aleishall & Matthew's wedding by photographer Mel Barrow. When we met Aleishall, she was running Olive & Peach, a delicious food site she had co-founded with long-time friend Katie Lee Joel, so it was natural that food should feature in their wedding invitation design. We created this pen-and-ink illustration of two pears, complemented by Aleishall's own gorgeous hand lettering, and letterpress printed it on coaster board.
Mel captured these gorgeous photos of their nuptials in Golden Gate Park.
Love these romantic peony flower arrangements, and the sweet little hand-made ring box below!

How beautiful is the work of San Francisco photographer Anna Kuperberg? We've been huge fans of Anna's for awhile now and are consistently impressed with the quality of her work. Her ethereal portraits are simply stunning.

Wall decals are all over the place these days, but we couldn't resist the idea of these custom made decals from Etsy seller Dali Decals. Personalize your reception location with your names, new monogram, or an inspirational quote or word. You could even use a decal as a backdrop for a photo booth!
We've previously raved about our obsession with paper pom poms and lanterns, which make wonderful, inexpensive decorations for weddings, showers, and parties. We just love these paper garlands, balls, and snowflakes, from UK-based Re-found Objects.

For those of you who are looking for paper decorations state-side, we found a great selection of Mexican paper picatas at Lee Carter Company (above).
123 Party has a great selection of tissue paper balls, bells, and fans (flat circular shape - shown above) in a wide array of colors and sizes. We found this pretty tissue paper snowflake decorations at Target. We found a nice dove garland (similar to the one from Re-found) at Oriental Trading Company.

We just love the notion of using mix-and-match vintage stamps on wedding invitations. While it can take patience to amass enough 15- and 3-cent stamps to match today's postage rates, we find the look to be worth the effort (wouldn't this be just the perfect task to delegate to some well-meaning family member who wants to help with wedding preparations? We think so!).

And of course we have to mention Martha Stewart Weddings, who have long championed the idea - trust them to compose each envelope perfectly...!
Where to buy? Ebay, of course. We're partial to seller SeaJay Stamp and Coin, who allows you to "buy it now" (no waiting around for auctions to end!) and offers topical sets featuring different themes, e.g. flowers, birds, butterflies, etc. Just be sure to look out for "mint" (e.g. unused) stamps.
We love making crepe paper flowers, but artist Jude Miller takes our breath away with her delicate and intricately detailed work (via Oh Joy!).
The incredible realism and the delicate colors and details are simply stunning. So inspiring...
Her headpieces are to die for...and imagine having her fashion a gorgeous bridal bouquet that you could keep long past your wedding day!
If you're in the Bay Area and would like to learn how to make your very own crepe paper flowers, Castle in the Air in Berkeley offers a great class and carries beautiful duplex crepe paper that they import from Germany that's an absolute dream to work with, as well as all the supplies you might need to create a veritable garden of delightful paper flora.
It's a wonderful way to add floral details to your wedding design - they make great boutonnieres, table setting decor (think place cards holders, a little blossom tucked into a napkin...), hair pieces...the possibilities are endless!

We admit it; we're complete magpies but we defy anyone to walk past the shop window of Jewels by Count Alexander in Islington without stopping, jaw dropping slowly, to gaze at the fantastic, glittering display set before you.
The shop is full of the most enchanting pieces made by Count Alexander von Beregshasy, each faithfully copied from originals worn by various members of European royalty or aristocracy such as Marie-Antoinette's sapphire necklace (above) or Grand Duchess Vladimir's tiara (below).
We can't think of a better way to turn a bride into a fairytale princess - or a frog into Prince Charming if bought for his very own Cinderella!

We confess, we're suckers for pom poms! They're easy to make, and for those without a DIY-bent they're available in inexpensive kits from Martha Stewart Crafts (also a great resource for DIY favors, rubber stamps, labels, and wedding accessories, including one of the only print-at-home program and place card kits we've seen!). You can also get great paper lanterns in a rainbow of colors at Pearl River.
Of course, we're fans of getting creative and trying out mix-and-match colors and shapes, per this gorgeous combination by Rebecca Thuss. Lovely!
We just stumbled across Spoonflower (via Stitch Lounge), a site that is in invitation only beta right now but that will some day soon be available to the rest of us (one hopes! cue bit-chomping), which allows you to print your very own fabric designs. We're *dying* with anticipation. We are simply brimming over with excitement over the opportunity to design our own textiles! Not to mention, the possibilities for creating custom textiles for your wedding (amazing coordinating table runners! Textiles for bridesmaids' gifts, guest book covers, huppahs, pocket squares, flower girl dresses...we can barely contain ourselves!)

Hello!Lucky designed programs (and wedding day stationery) with a seashell motif, which Morgan anchored elegantly with starfish. The ceremony aisle and trellis were beautifully decorated with white roses and petals by Edward Bellingeri Design (Note: his website is under construction). The wedding took place at the Ritz Carleton Half Moon Bay.
The bride and groom looked stunning and happy!
Morgan created a glamorous reception, with dramatic lighting design by Got Light? and a delicious chocolate cake with raspberry filling by Susan of Elegant Cheesecakes.
It was a weekend-long affair (the couple hails from New York City), and the ocean theme was carried throughout, including the weekend rehearsal dinner.
