Office of Nature Blog

How awesome is the new blog by Office of Nature?? Our friend Katherine Webb (who you might remember from our holiday guest artist collection!) has built an incredible blog about art and illustration for kids and since it's launch in April we've been hooked. She has an extremely well curated collection of designs by artists like Methane Studios (above) and Sol Linero (below) along with many others. We definitely suggest taking some time to scroll the pages. It will make you feel like a kid again!

Lucky Friday # 67, Better With Age

Hello all you lucky folks out there! This is the 67th edition of our Lucky Friday Giveaway.  Each Friday we feature one of our letterpress greeting cards. We’ll choose THREE LUCKY WINNERS to get a free card.  Post a comment by 12 p.m. PST the following Thursday, and we’ll announce the winners on the following Friday!

The winners from last week are (drum roll, please): Jen, Karen B. and Christine Power! We’ll contact you next week to arrange sending your Retro Garden card.

Design: Better With Age Artist: Julia Rothman Inspiration: We wanted a card that was full-bodied, that didn't "wine" about its age, and that could be cheesy but not too cheesy. Who to send it to: An oenophile or turophile with a penchant for the piquant, and with enough years under its cork to discern that maturity means complexity, quality, and intrigue. Favorite detail: It's not as much about the individual details, rather the overall flavor and the harmony of the pairings. Why letterpress? We'd compare letterpress to a Chateau Mouton, or at least a Lafite— it gives a strong impression and a beautiful finish.

Don’t forget to post your comment and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!

Real Wedding: Caroline and Blair

This real wedding is definitely one of our favorites. Once Caroline and Blair decided to tie the knot in wine country, they turned their beautiful Calistoga wedding into a wine lovers paradise. Set with deep red florals and classic decor, the event was truly one to remember. For their save the dates, each guest received a bottle of wine fit with a custom label and a vintage prescription inspired card.

The wedding invitation suite included prohibition-inspired letterpress invites, custom designed match books and place cards, and even a dictionary of wines to prepare all the guests for what Northern California has to offer. So many fabulous keepsakes!

Of course the natural beauty of Calistoga, CA (even in December!) created the perfect backdrop for such an event. Alison Events had their finest ladies work to create the ultimate romantic environment. The photos of their wine cave ceremony completely blew us away!

Caroline and Blair's dream day carried on into the night with a stunning reception, full of fine spirits and dancing. Oh how we love cozy winter weddings!

Free! Printable Father's Day Cards and Labels

Father's Day is right around the corner and this year we've got your one-of-a-kind gifts covered. You can jazz up a simple pair of socks, a bottle of wine, or a bottle of beer with these manly labels we've designed. Do you have a handsome and debonaire Dad? Print out our matching labels for a black pair of socks and a nice bottle of wine. We even created a slick card to match!

Is your Dad more on the rugged side? Why not make some beer and a pair of white socks a little more special with our free matching labels?

We printed ours on label paper which made sticking them to the bottles and socks a little easier, but these would look just as nice printed on regular white paper or card stock.

DIY Cotton Boutonnieres by Mrs. Vintage

It's always such a treat to see projects from our Handmade Weddings book come to life in real weddings. One of our favorite wedding inspiration blogs and gorgeous rental boutiques Mrs. Vintage recently crafted the sweet tallow berry and cotton bud boutonnieres for her big day and we'd say they turned out flawlessly.

Although creating your own floral bouquet or arrangement may seem complicated at first, this three-step process is quite simple! Mrs. Vintage tells that with the right materials and some trusty hot glue your boutonnieres can be DIY'ed just like that.

We love the adorable lavender pins for her ring bearers, and the pink ribbons tie it all together just right. Props to Mrs. Vintage for mastering this DIY! To see the step-by-step tutorial along with endless bridal inspiration, click here!

The Best of NSS, Part 3

There was so much good work at NSS this year that it was hard to keep it to just two posts. So here is my third and final post, but really I could have done about three more! Rose from The Great Lakes Goods always has a strong showing and this year was no exception (above and below).

Newcomer Pei Designs featured some super cute illustrations - all letterpressed (above and below)!

Our buddy Susy (from Susy Jack) really knocked it out of the park this year with her awesome recipes boxes, paperweights and calendars (above and below).

Do you recognize the feather illustration?

The always amazing Rifle Paper debuted these ridiculously adorable cocktail coasters:

Fawnsberg is run by two sisters, and features sweet illustrations on their cards and rubber stamps (above and below).

Finally, Atlanta-based Alee and Press really nailed it with their ombre style:

Whew! It was a great show and I loved checking out all the beautiful new work. Let us know in the comments if you discovered anyone new and amazing at the show this year!

Lucky Friday # 66 Retro Garden

Hello all you lucky folks out there! This is the 66th edition of our Lucky Friday Giveaway.  Each Friday we feature one of our letterpress greeting cards. We’ll choose THREE LUCKY WINNERS to get a free card.  Post a comment by 12 p.m. PST the following Thursday, and we’ll announce the winners on the following Friday!

The winners from last week are (drum roll, please): Justine, Priscilla and Mary E Leach! We’ll contact you next week to arrange sending your Sick Monkey card.

Design: Retro Garden Artist: Sarah Labieniec Inspiration: We bet your grandma had wallpaper like that in her mid-century modern bungalow. We want a couch with that print. Pretty please and thank you. Who to send it to: Your peony-loving Paw-Paw or your retro rockin' great aunt Rachel. Favorite detail: Been craving some cool crosshatching these days. Why letterpress? Because that's how it was done when your Paw-Paw and great aunt Rachel had that fab furniture, wild wallpaper, and perfect peonies.

Don’t forget to post your comment and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!

The Best of NSS, Part 2

Hey peeps! It's time for more goodies from this years National Stationery Show (click here to see Part 1). First up is the amazing work from 1 Canoe 2 (above and below): 3 talented girls who draw, design and letterpress print in a barn in Missouri. Living the dream.

Making their NSS debut this year was Los Angeles based The Social Type (below). I love how the same sentiment can be interpreted in many different ways!

Another favorite of mine was Banquet Atelier & Workshop, based in Vancouver. Our mutual love of neon was obvious:

How incredible is their guest sign (below)? I'm loving their prints also.

My favorite birthday card of the show came from Anemone Letterpress (below). So clever!

Stay tuned for part 3!

The Best of NSS, Part 1

This year we didn't have a booth at the National Stationery Show but our New York satellite office (aka Design Director Shauna Leytus) was there visiting some of our favorite artists and making new friends. She'll be doing a series of posts recapping what she saw and loved. Here's her first post!

Where do I begin?! There was so much amazing work at the National Stationery Show this year from new comers and old favorites. Making her NSS debut, Left Field cards (above) showcased nine letterpressed "baseball cards" complete with mustaches, edibles and bizarre injuries. Collect them all!

One of my favorite cards of the entire show belonged to Red Camper (above and below). Need I say more?

A fellow card maker sharing a love of food-themed imagery was Fox Tail Press (above and below). When I asked when "national spaghetti day" actually was, Danielle rightly answered "everyday". Duh.

Design*Sponge declared Linda & Harriet's over-sized Quilt Calender the best thing she saw at the show and I couldn't agree more. My photos do not do it justice - this is a work of art and it is amazing.

More coverage of the show to come!

Letterpress Road Trip

Pack up the presses and hit the road! That is exactly what Kyle Durrie of Moveable Type did back in 2010 when she felt torn between her two passions - road trips and printmaking. She wasn't about to choose one or the other, so Kyle transformed a 1982 Chevy Step Van into her personal print shop. She set off onto a country-wide journey introducing moveable type to cities east and west, and it's making a big impression on all the communities she visits. When she visited The Curiosity Shoppe San Francisco last July we were amazed at the turnout, especially for such a small space!

The Moveable Type truck updates their tour dates daily, so be sure to find out if it's coming to a town near you. You can go home with hand-cranked posters, cards, and learn a little more about the print process. Visit the website here!

Kayte Terry and Paper Made!

We're thrilled that one of our favorite artists and authors will be visiting the bay area this week for a stop on her book tour. Kayte Terry will be at the Contemporary Jewish Museum this Thursday, May 24th to lead one of the museum's Rit Lab events. At this Rit Lab Kayte will be leading people through some paper crafts from her new book Paper Made!

Just look at these adorable projects.

These fans would be perfect for summer weddings and programs.

Did we mention Kayte also works for Anthropologie and is responsible for some of those beautiful window displays you've no doubt stared at in wonder.

Meet Kayte, check out her new book, eat some cheese, and craft. Sounds like a perfect Thursday evening to us. Details and tickets can be found here.

Don't live in the Bay Area? Check out Kayte's schedule here to see if she'll be in your city soon.

Schools Out!

Call us old school but we think the art of letter writing is not dead. What better way to keep the post office in business than gifting a grad you know with some sweet personalized stationery? A thoughtful gift that will welcome them to the next chapter of adulthood. And maybe it will be a good reminder for them to send a note home once in a while!

We've recently added new personalized stationery designs, check them out here.

Lucky Friday # 65, Sick Monkey

Hello all you lucky folks out there! This is the 65th edition of our Lucky Friday Giveaway.  Each Friday we feature one of our letterpress greeting cards. We’ll choose THREE LUCKY WINNERS to get a free card.  Post a comment by 12 p.m. PST the following Thursday, and we’ll announce the winners on the following Friday!

The winners from last week are (drum roll, please): Angela, Janet and Petra! We’ll contact you next week to arrange sending your I Melt for You card.

Design: Sick Monkey Artist: Eunice Moyle Inspiration: Nothing sadder than a sick li'l sock monkey. Who to send it to: A puppet with pertussis, a monkey with the mumps, an ailing ape, or any peaked post-primate. Ideas we scrapped in favor of this one: The "Monkey-zuma's Revenge" card was a little too evocative. Favorite detail: The sad little slouch tugs on our sympathy strings. Why letterpress? A mostly immobilized person particularly appreciates a picture with a little palpable punch— the perfect pick-me-up.

Don’t forget to post your comment and tune in next week, same time, different stationery, to see if you’ve won!

New Wedding Invitations!

This week we released three new wedding suites on our site. We're so excited to add two more beautiful Joel Dewberry designs to our collection. Secret Garden and English Rose are both delicate and romantic, perfect for a Spring or Summer wedding.

In addition to these elegant invites we've also released a brand new design from yours truly named Darling Bud. The layered lines and textures in Darling Bud are just begging to be letterpressed but it looks just as pretty printed flat.

Some photos of the invites in different color ways.

Welcome to the family sweet new suites!

Handmade Jewelry by Rare Indeed

These hand crafted accessories by Rare Indeed are in fact, rare indeed! It's always exciting to stumble upon one-of-a-kind pieces by artists on Etsy, and we're feeling particularly fond of these illustrative items as they remind us of some of our favorite designs.

This striped circus tent brooch would liven up any outfit, especially if attending a circus-themed party (see our new Big Top kids birthday party invitation!)

No summer vacation is complete without a trip to the beach and these anchor stud earrings would be the ultimate accessory. Or, for all you Cape Cod brides, these studs might make the perfect gift for bridesmaids!

Our new Adventure wedding invitation has been a popular addition to our collection, so we can definitely see this hot air balloon necklace making a splash.

Hello!Lucky B Sides & a Giveaway

We think one of the most delightful things about our greeting cards is the fact that the design often continues to the back of the card.

It's a fun little surprise you find when you hold one of our cards in your hands. And since only the front sides of our cards are shown online people often don't get to see this fun little party on the back. So here are some rarely photographed back sides of our cards. We're sharing some brand new designs along with a couple old favorites.

Another signature Hello!Lucky card trait is anthropomorphizing food, which we're big fans of around here. We've got dancing deviled eggs, talking pancakes, and laughing champagne bottles. Tell us which food you'd like to see come to life next and we'll send one lucky commenter 3 of our new cards! We'll pick a winner this Friday, May 18th.

Cards in order of appearance: Happy New Year's Eve, Yeti Love, Animal Parade, BBQ Parade.

Open Studio Success!

Thanks so much to all of you who came out on Saturday. It was a sunny day and we know you had a lot of options on how to spend your day.

We'll be posting some photos from the event (taken by the lovely Rikki Ward) soon, but here's a couple of shots in the mean time. We had so much fun opening our doors we're thinking of doing it every couple of months.

Let us know what you think and if you would prefer an open studios in the evening or a weekend afternoon again.
